anyone quit drinking coffee because of hypertension?

my lifestyle is catching up with me.

i am wound up pretty tight. work is a PIA, a family member is sick (very sick), my garage is stacked to the rafters with a bathroom remodel's supplies..that has yet to happen.

i am watching my food, exercising..trying to unwad my panties.. i am clearly hypertension material. doc says i need to calm down..and live better.

i have cut out booze, cut out 90% red meat (once every two weeks)..and now my coffee is on the chopping block. anyone have to quit caffiene to lower blood pressure?

i am not really missing the red meat..ditching the wine, hurt alittle bit, but i'll live knowing i can have a sip or two on really special occasions..but COFFEE!! damn.

Vash,

I've cut back to one cup of high test per day...BP was a little high, but then I'm 54 and drank a lot of coffee.

BP is normal now.

We switched to the K-1 cups...it really makes it easy and the decaf selection is great, which made the transition away from caffeinated a breeze..

Good luck.

I think I'd be a lot worse off without coffee. I used to brew 3-4 cups each morning, as measured in my coffee maker. It filled my travel mug twice. Now I brew enough to fill it once. I've been on BP meds for about a year and they have worked well.

I switched from panties to boxers... helped quite a bit.

YMMV

Practical advice from Scott. I found that a thong doesn't bunch either. YMMV.

Don't give up coffee - just moderate a bit - a cup a day. I use a tessoro at work, which is pretty handy for a single serving.

Cutting the Carbs my man is necessary. A new study out says that Fat ain't so much the killer but Carbs and Sugar is far more destrutive to health. Every package U pick up in the Super read the label and see what the Carb and Sodium content is.

Transition from bleached flour products to whole grain products. Cut Pasta, Rice, Bread, Potatoes and Sugar. Drop Carbs down to about 100 Grams a day, you will lose weight.

When I ws younger I never would even consider eating WHOLE WHEAT BREAD...ewwww...I am not some kind of health nut freak...but now it is necessary.

If I give up my morning coffee... can I still have the couple shots of whiskey that I put in it?

I drink a couple cups in the morning... unless you drink it all day I don't think it is too bad for your BP.

I'm pretty sure alcohol is bad for the old BP no matter what... but a few glasses of vino on special occasions should be OK.

I am not a doctor nor have I stayed in a Holiday Inn.

I presume you have been to the pharmacy section of your supermarket and bougth a PB monitor? (edit:BP monitor, but it wouldn't hurt to monitor your PB too) They are about $40 IIRC.

I don't drink, smoke or use any caffeine products. BP and pulse are good, but cholestral was a pinch high last time. I'm watching what I eat and exercising to help that.

If I cut out coffee and pasta, I'd be like Anakin Skywalker, killing the little Jedi kids at the Temple, each morning at work.

My parents are in their 80's, weekly doctor visits, yearly operations and hospital visits, cabinet full of pills, aches and pains, I figure I don't want to live past 75.

Take up smoking to relax...either that or, after you've "cut out" all vices, begin to cut out paper dolls..

I'm not joking...a guy NEEDS a vice or two, even a minor one. Doing all the right "healthy" things may give you a longer lifespan, but are you really "living"?

BP is very difficult to control by lifestyle and diet changes. Go on meds (e.g., ACE inhibitors), you'll live a longer and happier life, and will be able to have the "forbidden foods" in moderation.

I drink copious amounts of coffee.
Never seems to bother me.
Just read a blurb this morning that said women that drink a lot of coffee are less apt to get breast cancer............go figure.

RELAX... Do you have a pet?

Exercise helps which is good because you're doing it but how often?

I walk most days and I get wound up when I miss a day. Sometimes it's hard to get motivated but I know I'll feel like crap and not sleep if I don't walk.
Blood sugar is all over the place. Diabetes runs in my family and my older brother is on medication.

How much time do you have for yourself? Just YOU time???

I fix things and restore old stuff for friends. Sometimes I just go for a walk in town or a public garden and take film photos.
I have a pavement cycle. It's basically a mountain bike with smooth tires and no suspension.
Just hop and go. No plan just peddle. and peddle... Usually end up at a place called Glenelg (30kms away). It's on the beach and lots of young people are there.
Try to stay away from negative or energy sapping people. I know it can be hard but try anyway. And if there's someone you can't get away from just listen or pretend to.

Some times I'm so wound up I feel like I'm broken or about to burst. I just take a deep breath and pat my cat.

I've raised three kids on my own and there have been some moments. My girls will be 21 and 22 this year and both don't live with me anymore.
My son, 15 is a PITA. I have to encourage him to do just about everything. If I didn't insist he wouldn't shower or brush his teeth.
And I get stressed... I comb his hair for him because it's long. He won't cut it but he doesn't look after it. So it falls to me to insist he has a shower and wash his hair.
I hate to say it but he's so much like my ex wife. She was just bone lazy and that used to piss me off big time. I thank the Sweet Jesus everyday because she left.

Just look after yourself. Do the things that make you feel good. You can change.

just so

If you are an old head with hypertension, you need to change a few things.

Cigarettes are out, eat the barrel of a pistol, better way to go out.

Otherwise, moderation in all things. I disagree with totally cutting out anything else you really want, maybe hard liquor and soda pop ought to go, not much of a cocktail guy, so maybe not the right guy to ask about that. Glass of wine with dinner, seems to keep the French from killing themselves with the cigarettes. Oats seem to be good for you, lots of them, but I like oatmeal and cheerios anyway.

EXERCISE you must, best to find something you like to do, partner to exercise with will make you less likely to blow it off, even a dog to walk with helps. Ought to lift weights too, especially if you are a post menopausal gal, keep your bones strong. You will be more likely to bounce if you do fall, instead of cracking a pelvis or something. Good diet, plenty of water, lay off the red meat, blah blah.

Okay, that covers body, but Yoda was right, more to us than just flesh and blood, mind and spirit matter. If you are running gasket blowing pressures, you are stressin'. Exercise helps to defuse this a bit, but you have to devote a little time to mental health. Go fishing, play with your kids/grandkids, build a 1/8 scale model of a Duesy straight 8, collect buxom brown gals and take pictures of them licking each other and a cold steel katana, go drive around and listen to that horizontally opposed music playing behind your head, grow roses or vegetables, chase racoons around your yard naked, make up an online persona and vent through that, self hypnosis, whatever works.

Oh yeah, vitally important, get adequate sleep.
