USAA Banking?

Anyone do this? They don't have a branch in my city, however you can scan your check/deposits in at home, or drop them off at a UPS store. The rest is electronic which is how I do things now anyway. Of course they're offering a multi-service discount on my other policies if I switch. Pros or cons?

I use USAA banking and have all my insurance there as well. I think they do a great job at a good price. Have used the electronic deposit and do most of my bills by transfer payment, no problems to date. Have been a USAA customer for many years.

Everyone in my family uses USAA for banking, insurance, home and auto... USAA will not insure houses in my area... so I only use them for car ins...

I am the odd man out inre the banking... they don't have a branch near here, and I am not really comfortable doing my banking online...

Other than that my family has been using USAA for probably more than 60 years..

no complaints

The branch issue I suppose is my real concern. I'm a bit surprised that Denver doesn't at least have one.

I've been a member since 1991, 20 years.

Great bank, great insurance for cars, motorcycles, but not boats (use Boat US)

Great car insurance claims, I could tell awesome stories.

Member since 1960. Best bank ever. Has no branches, needs no branches.

Why do you think you need a branch?

Member since 1972. Nothing but insurance. No credit card or investments. What kind of ins discount can I get by giving them some banking? What are the minimum requirements deposit wise? I know I could call, but it would be great to hear from users.

They don't have any branches, not that I've ever heard of. No ATMs either.

To compensate, they refund all of your ATM fees (within reason; I forget the actual limits, but I've never paid an ATM fee) and you can cash checks with your iPhone.

I've had a couple of claims with their insurance, and they've been flawless. I've called them at random times with unusual banking problems, and they've come through as if customer service really genuinely mattered. All of the things that other banks make a big show of promising are considered standard at USAA, and have been for as long as I've been a member.

I don't have personal experience with their buying services (cars, diamonds, et al), but friends who have used their services report being genuinely pleased.

If I had it all to do over again, I'd still stay with USAA.

Dan

Strictly from my conversation today with my agent there are no minimums on checking or savings, and no fees on balances. My insurance rates will go down a bit as a result of switching my banking over.

As far as the "branch" goes I do sometimes take amounts of cash out in excess 5k for when I go to auto auctions, so that's my need for a branch.

You probably don't anymore. A few decades ago the manager of the local bank (or the branch of the not-so-local bank) knew you and/or your family and you could get a small loan on nothing more than your reputation. Those days are long gone. It's all numbers now. We are all just numbers.

I have USAA - love them.

They do have a financial center in Colorado Springs - but all ATMs are basically 'free' - up to a certain fee reimbursement limit per month. I bought a car a couple of years ago and got $750 off because I was a member, and I love their on-line stuff - you can put all your financial stuff from different sources in one place - so I just go to their site and I can see my credit cards from other banks (AmEx, Citi, etc.) as well as stocks and brokerage info from other places (Schwab, Pioneer, etc). And other bank/CD/annuity info

I also have a mortgage with them, and I can see my other properties' info on the USAA site as well.

It is great if you want to see where you are financially everywhere... at a glance.

Taking a picture of deposit checks with your cell phone is cool.

Their insurance is pretty darn good too - but I don't insure my classic cars (i.e. Porsche) with them - they use American's Collectors, who I don't like. Haggerty for the toys.

same here. we do however keep a checking account open with a local bank just in case we need to deposit cash. We then write a check from that account and deposit it with our android phone since all the bills are paid with the USAA account.

I've been with them since 1976. No complaints what so ever. Banking, insurance, credit card, and investments. Two thumbs up.
I'm currently in the middle of an insurance claim with them. Our tent trailer got rear ended this memorial day weekend by two cars that were not paying attention.

I have home/car ins and a credit line with them... Same here no complaints.

Mortgage and checking are with Citi... only because I have been with them since the beginning of time... and they have branches in So Cal... and all the 7-11's.
