Obsolete Tech Finds In The Garage
I was organizing the garage and found:
- one Newton MP2000 - one Toshiba Libretto L100 - one Sony SW / World Band radio Talk about blasts from the past. I wonder if it is worth the effort to get these charged up and working. The Libretto I remember putting away because, with max 64MB RAM, it wouldn't even run Win 95 acceptably - everything requiring paging to HDD. I think I could stick a 20GB SSD in it, set pagefile to max, and it would run, maybe, Win XP? The Newton is (was) a cool device. I wonder if anyone still supports it? The Sony is a radio, so has some functionality, if there is such a thing as shortwave radio broadcasting anymore. |
I have a Toshiba 1200HD. I was teased at the time for springing the extra money for a 10MB harddisk instead of just using dual 720k 3.5in disks.
|
If the Libretto still turns on, I'll give you $25 for it...
Always wanted one since the first time I saw one. |
Antique Radio Classifieds to find the radio value...lots of folks into collecting old radios. And yes, Short Wave is still very much around.
|
The laptop... if you can get anything at all you've done well. Most likely won't hold a charge as batteries have been discharged too long.
The Newton... very cool. They sell surprisingly well. |
recent tornado damage got me going thru boxes...
-A Commodore 64. -Several Palm Pilots. -My first laptop, had a 64MB hard drive. Yes, MB. |
Heck,
I thought this was going to be about oil can spouts. A few years ago, I gave our second computer (2 51/4 floppy drives and a 10 Mb hard drive added after a few years) to a computer museum. It still worked, as did the yellow monochrome monitor. Les |
I found this little guy hanging around the neighborhood last summer.

When I cleaned my garage a few months ago I tossed maybe $200k worth (when it was new) of computer equipment. Dual PPro server boxes w/ 9gb of scsi disks in RAID, etc.

I found a Tefifon player and a collection of "tapes" with classical music on them:

I didn't find it in the garage, but it was given to me by a guy I used to work with:

Would like to hear what other interesting stuff you all are finding in your garages.
Rooted around some more last night. No more computer stuff, but did find a NAD turntable. The ashes of my dog. A 12-ga shotgun. A Marryat fly reel. This is interesting, but is making me feel a bit old too. |
