I saw a TV commercial this week that proclaims that you can now talk on your iPhone while you simultaneously surf the web! This is great! Now not only can you ignore the person you are with, you can also ignore the person you are talking to on the phone while you text someone else! This is too good, LOL. Now if they would just invent a car without a steering wheel so my thumbs would be free to text while I'm driving.

Sent from my iPhone while editing my Facebook account while talking to my best friend while ignoring my wife's screams while driving 110mph on the freeway.

I've been off Facebook for a year this week and I don't miss it even a little bit...

Or you can use it the completely useful way like when you are on the phone with a friend and you need to make plans or figure out a movie time and you are able to continue the call while getting useful information.

Facebook jumped the shark when you stopped needing a .edu address to join.

Lots of haters here. I like FB a lot. I've reconnected with some folks I have wanted to get in touch with for years, but could not find. One is a British girl I knew when I was an exchange student in Germany in college. She, of course, married and changed her name, both parents died and I had no way to find her. She found me. In two weeks I'm going to the 20th reunion of the class I was put in when an exchange student in high school. Through that event's FB page, I've also reconnected with a lot of folks I haven't talked with since we all moved, got married and started using email. A few times I've been able to keep in touch with clients who've moved into other jobs and whose old work email addresses stopped working. I don't live for FB and I don't post every time I walk into a restaurant or hardware store like so many other idiots do. I love the "Now at DFW" or "Just walked into Lowe's in Chantilly" posts. Like I give a rat's ass. Otherwise I like it.

I've been on FB a lot lately. I use it to find out what current students think about a school that I might transfer to. I use it to find out about many other business services. Also, my aunt just had major surgery and her daughter posted how she's doing and when she's ready for visitors. There are many things you can do on FB. Just ignore the stupid stuff which I agree are plentiful.

Like Rick, I like FB a lot. It allows me to keep in touch with the friends I made on my exchange program, as well as the exchange students in my University.

I also just found out about an upcoming 10 yr reunion that I would have otherwise missed if not for FB.

I use it a lot also and I'm guessing the people on here who don't like it, have no interest in going to a reunion either.

I think it's funny how much people hate FB, especially when they've never used it. It's what you make of it. Yes, there are obnoxious people posting obnoxious things... but cripes, those are the folks who are generally obnoxious anywhere/anytime. It's up to you who you want to pay attention to. Same goes for secutity settings, and how much is public/private.

I've reconnected with folks who I wouldn't have heard from otherwise, and it's a great way to see what distant family is up to. Great to see pics of nieces/nephews every few weeks, and I like seeing what projects people are taking on. Not any different from what goes on here, really... just it a much more streaming format.

When I hear people rant about FB, it reminds me of a great uncle who always thought that the telephone was the most obnoxious, inane device you could put in your home. "What do I want these people calling and checking in on me for?? If they were important to me, they'd write a letter or stop by! How do I know Bell isn't listening all the time?" lol... the more things change..

I got back in touch with a couple of friends who moved to another state when their parents suddenly divorced after my freshman year. To me that site is great - I thought I'd never see the two of them again.

I'm one of those people.
Reunions, no thanks. Probably wouldn't remember half of the people anyway.
All the important people that need to be in my life, are, in real life.

Some folks come and go over the years, some I'll never see again, and some I haven't met yet...
That's how my life works and I'm ok with that. I don't feel the need to reconnect with my past, because that stuff already happened.

If FB works for you, that's ok too.

My wife uses it often, I never really ahd much interest and never made an account.

I did watch the movie "The Social Network", and undertsand that there was definately some artistic license taken with the film, but everyone involved in the creation of FB came across as jerks/douches(except Zuckerberg's roomate/co-founder).

VINMAN 05-24-2011 03:58 AM

I like it. I dont do the constant updates like alot of people do. I dont need to tell everyone when I'm taking a crap or going out to walk the dog. But I have got back in touch with a lot of my friends I grew up with and have moved away.

I'm not anti-social like some of you fokkers on here! :p:D
