New yard being overrun with...bamboo?

the yard at the new place we moved into a couple months ago is being positively overrun with what I believe is bamboo. There are some larger bamboo stalks growing on another side of the house that we know is bamboo, and the small growths sure look like bamboo shoots. It has the same segmented stalks.
Its everywhere.

I say we should verify, and eat it!

Some types of bamboo send out runners... and will quickly turn your yard into a forest.

You have been warned.

Wolfe, be a proud PNW'ener, you have horsetail growing in your moss and it looks like a dandelion green on the side also.

If you have been outside quite a bit, a little copper will kill the moss on your neck too.

Horsestail. The most difficult weed to get rid of that I have ever encountered.

No matter how many times you pull it, it will come back. It has a waxy coating, so if you spray it with weed killer, the spray just runs off. Produces spores, millions of them.

I would be interested in peoples experience of killing it.

Bamboo is impossible to get rid of without thermonuclear explosions. Many, in fact.

I was happy to move from the PNW and leave my crop of horsetail behind. I had thinned it down by pulling it up, digging it up and frequent roundup use.

Now I live in the land of Crown Vetch - a similar problem. I'll have to move again.

Know a guy in NY who has a Poison Ivy eradication business.

He has a piece of equipment that steams it.

Says the steam strips the ivy's protective coating and kills it permanently.

Wonder if that would work.

the real problem is that the environment favors its growth

you need to change the environment to really get rid of it

there are places down at the American River that are over run with that stuff, the blackberries seem to choke it out though, maybe if you planted something that would take over like that, but not be an impenetrable thicket
