Oklahoma Pelicans

Lurking on here for several years, I notice that there are an impressive number of Pelicans in Oklahoma. This is my adopted home (I grew up in Connecticut [shiver]) and I think it is a great place. I see GH85Carrera, javadog, enzo1, porsche4life, and others that post here on a regular basis. I know we're not as cohesive as the Cali bunch, but I'd like to offer to host a get together in Oologah sometime soon. It's a haul for Sidney from Weatherford, but I'd like to meet him, and the rest of you, too. Anyhow, let me know if you're at all interested. I'd be happy to host.

I'm in OKC tonight for a PCA board meeting. We ate having an autocross shootout this weekend with the BMW club. Check out WarBonnet PCA - Home for details

Ask JR, a few miles don't scare me. You guys name a time and place... I'll be there if I don't have a conflict.

Now that I have a keyboard. I'd be happy to come up some time. It will be a few weekends before I am free, I've gotta throw down at the autocross this weekend () and then I have first aid training the next weekend.... Then its turkey day which is probably bad for you guys... Then its back to two more weekends of PCA stuff here.... So we are after Christmas now.... I'll look at the calendar and throw some dates out in the spring, I've been wanting to get together with JR again anyways. Not sure what you guys have in mind but I would most likely be needing to find lodging(by lodging I mean a couch or a place with a shower near that I can pitch my tent) if I am up there. When I go to Tulsa I make a weekend out of it.

There are 3 guys in OKC that post on occasion that you missed. Gooch1971, RKDinOKC, and plainfan.

I take it there are some roads worth driving in that area? Or will we have to run over and down Hwy 10?

I don't recall many good roads near Oologah but of you go east a ways, you can find some around Grand lake, Spavinaw, etc.

So, spring is the earliest you can fit it into your schedule? Some of us are old... we may not make it that long.

You really should have planned on skipping the autocross this weekend, in favor of attending the Palooza event in Arkansas. It's way more fun...

There's actually a bunch of us in the greater Tulsa area. I can think of Ray_G in Mannford, kiwiokie and hesaputz in Tulsa... there are more, I just have to remember their user names...

It sounds like a fun get together.

I actually have a cousin that lives in Oologah. I love hearing non Okies try to pronounce Oologah.

Nice to hear about this now....

I want to go to Palooza some year, but that is a helluva drive for me. Besides we are having a little friendly competition with the BMW club, autocross will be worth it.

You know, there have been threads about the event on Pelican... as there are every year. Plus, you can count on it being the same time every year...so put a wake-up call into your I-phone for next year.

I know it's a long drive for you but it's something you ought to do a least once. Way more fun than that same long drive to go climbing...

Yes I do need to go... I'll see about it next year. Its just hard for me to miss class lots of fridays due to exams and quizzes.

And watch it with the climbing jokes... The rock here in OK is pretty terrible for climbing... Have to drive over there, its closer than CO....

I would think that there's a lot of rock in your end of Oklahoma. Seems like it when I drive that direction...

Or, is it too rattlesnake infested?

I would thing the Gloss mountains are kinda crumbly for climbing.

Talimena drive? I'm down south, but I've been thinking of taking this drive.... can't let Cali guys have all the fun, can we? I'd love to meet some pelicans but seems like my schedule makes it hard to do

It's all flaky and slabby. Most of the climbing is really hard and scary.

Great response, thanks. Seems like it might be tough to do soon, but I'll keep the responders handles and send another feeler out next month. As for pronouncing Oologah, I had a disadvantage to begin with, but with lots of practice and eyerolling from the locals, I think I've got it down now. It's only been 7 years. I have met kiwiokie, and would like to see him show up with his hotrod; the other two I don't recall. But I'll include them in my next message.
