I've heard you don't stick your arm out of the train windows in Japan.

That did not look like Japan.

I guess those folks set up where they can.

That's just crazy. Poor planning to say the least. (and "lovely" diesel fumes all over the veggies)

What that shows me is a government that has almost no regards for its people or how they live.
That would never be allowed to happen in the US, UK, Europe or any other Western Country.

I will bet the train was there first. The vendors set up there because it was a open spot. Since they don't a government check for rent, food stamps, and welfare payments just to sit home and watch TV they have to earn money however they can, without resorting to drug dealing or robbery.

Market came first, train later.

That's partly true. They do work hard and most working age people have a second jobs.
But having spent time in South east Asia I can tell you they have huge social issues even though they don't get hand outs.
Drugs, Violence, Poverty... Child Prostitution just to name a few. Basically the same issue as us but at a much more extreme level.

In Thailand drug dealers get "Death by machine gun" and yet you can get any drug you want on just about any street corner in Bangkok. = Nil Effect

What if their Government moved the market to the lawn of some disused Government owned Palace? (The King Of Thailand has a few )
