I have considered it... however I have considered many things

My new wife is fairly conservative so I don't think she would be amused... I'm middle age and balding so I suggested shaving my head... she freaked out.

I an American mutt... however my surname is English... so would I be in for a beat down if I worn a kilt? They do look comfy.

I really have considered wearing one... if nothing else just to be different.

Joe Bob - it is not blackwatch - it is the Hunting Stewart tartan -

I don't know if Brandon has the background to wear it.

Nope - I know my Tartans - the red and gold threads on a pine ground with a single single double black run, alt. with blue (or some variation of that). Hunting Stewart. (whoops - I spelled it wrong in my original post - it is Stewart - 't' at the end).

shouldn't a real kilt have a loop up over the shoulder? those just look like skirts.

If I were scottish (which I am partly) and were participating in a ceremony or some other ritual that required authentic (OLD STYLE) historic costumes, I'd get a kilt. But it is a COSTUME!

Wearing one just for the heck of it is, .............. well I guess it's no more weird than walking around wearing a superman costume.
Every day is not halloween for normal folks.

I have a Utilikilt as well as a traditional 9yd hand-made kilt in my family tartan. When the utilikilts were $100 I could see buying one to save some money over the real deal, now that they are over $200 it seems like it is a harder case to make. I wear both of them when the mood strikes me. You get some looks, but the only comments I have ever gotten have been positive, especially from the ladies. I suspect the people who think you're a weirdo keep their comments to themselves, lest they receive a sound thrashing. The quality of the Utilikilts is ok, but not up to the standards of a real hand-made traditional kilt. I can't comment of the quality vs one of the cheaper mass produced kilts in the popular tartans. Utilikilts are quite a bit more comfortable to wear in hot weather and are generally considered to be less formal than a traditional kilt.

As for wearing a kilt regimental style or not, a Utilikilt doesn't hang the way a wool kilt does. If you are going to be sitting down much, you may need to keep an eye on things to not flash people. This tends to not be as much of an issue with wool. I've never had the snap comes undone on my Utilikilt, but it could be embarrasing if they did.

ditto

Around here, you can expect anyone wearing one (UtiliKilt usu) to be some ponytail attention-seeking misfit. ...who doesn't shave or bath much.

I wore a kilt hundreds of times over a 12 year period because I played the bagpipes. If I see somebody wearing a kilt "just because" I think "What a nutjob!"

The original Kilts were a belted plaid or blanket. Wrapped around the body and then over the shoulder and held with a pin or brooch.

They developed into the 'modern' kilt version with the pleats at the back (Branson is an ass)

By the way - he is NOT wearing Black Watch - I have a Black Watch kilt and it should not have the red and yellow lines.

I have always loved seeing men in kilts. Of course, I'm quite a fan of "man legs"!

Now you guys show me that it's commando under there? REALLY? Oh I am SO in love with Kilts!

that's old style and actually has some other name - I think people just call it a cloak nowadays

the "skirt only" style is a modern kilt and goes with a dark blue Blazer...

you wear your swords on the belt and that small black knife goes in the top of the hose

oh yeh - the Irish have kilts also - all Celts do AFAIK, even down into N. Spain maybe - esp. now that it is more popular

now, don't forget to rub goose grease over all the wool to waterproof it in the highlands

Odd, when I suggested to my Irish friend we buy a couple cheap ones off ebay and go out for St Paddy's in Portland he scoffed "Irish don't wear kilts!

Maybe it was just too silly for him... him being in Portland OR. I thought it would be down with it.
