I'm drawn to the Sig 556 because of my overwhelmingly positive experiences with their pistols. But, for obvious reasons, a Colt rifle has great merit.

What would you buy? $1500-1800 price range.

If you decide you want an AR, build your own. Rainier Arms, LLC™ | Taking the AR15 to new heights. is an excellent place to go for that.

As far as a piston rifle, I have a Robinson XCR and I think it's an excellent design. Unfortunately, the company that makes it isn't known for the greatest customer support.

I built one from a Spike's lower and Del-Ton complete upper. It's pretty sweet and I have about $600 into it.

I think the SIG's look so badass, but they are heavy. If I ever get one, I'll spring for the Swiss 550 or 552 version.

I just don't see the value in what Colts cost. You can build the same rifle for about half the money and it will be just as reliable. All the doo-dads you add onto it are going to cost the same, regardless of which rifle you buy.
