Edumakate me on curing paint with LED's

Wife tells me they can cure her nail polish in the salon in under a minute with a LED lamp.

We looked online at these lamps go for $200-$300, some are UV and some are white light.

They are rated at approx. 10 watts.

I can buy a 13 watt 400 lumen 120VAC screw in LED lamp for $40.

Or I could buy some UV LED's and build my own lamp on perf board.

Are these a special type of LED? (To cure paint)

I have looked around and not much info on doing this DIY is available.

Thanks,

PS, yes I am a tech but I know there are people here who work with paint professionally and thought maybe they would know.

Are you looking at just curing nail polish with light or would you be interested in other glues?

At work we use Loctite 363 to bond rock to microscope slides. It cures under UV light very quickly.

The $200 nail polish LED dryer claims 9 X 5Watt LED's... having some trouble finding 5watt LED's to build my own.

So now a woman can go in and get her nails done and get a tan on her fingers at the same time?

Allied electronics has something similar...

Seeing as I would need nine or ten... and also need a high current power supply... starting to get a little pricey.

The paint (or nail polish ) is formulated for UV cure. Regular nail polish will not cure faster using UV light. (small amount of heat from the lights will help some.) For this to work you need UV cure nail polish. Completely different monomers and polymers than air dry, plus photo initiator.
