Craigslist Scam - Ducati
Add in local CL was for a 2009 Monster 696 with 2100 miles for. . .$3000. Red flag!
For fun, I inquired. Got no response. Inquired again...and received two responses in two separate e-mails on different days...both identical: Hello, Sorry it has taken so long to get back in touch with you. First of all let me say that the Ducati Monster 696 is in excellent condition, it has never been dropped or laid down and I have a clear title. I don't want to get rich by it's selling, just want to give it to someone who will take good care of it. I'm an US Air Force MSgt. currently stationed in Little Rock Air Force Base, AR and the bike is here with me, I can have it shipped from here by an US Air Force cargo plane so there won't be any shipping costs for you. Also I can arrange for a truck to transport it to your home address or you can pick it up from the nearest airport in your area. The shipping takes around 48 hours, depending on your location. If you are interested in purchasing the bike contact me back so I can provide you with more information. The bike has 2100 miles, year 2009, 696 cc Engine, Red Color. MSgt. Josh Russo PS. Sorry for the long email I've tried to touch all bases Of course this is a scam. Why would he not simply sell it in Little Rock? Also surprising that the USAF is now providing free shipping for 400 lb motorcycles. Taxes hard at work I guess. In any case, I replied that I'm interested and asked what the next steps would be. I'm sure he'll want me to deposit money into an Ebay escrow account or such. Gotta wonder how people like this sleep at night.

Oh wow, sir! This is Mike! You were my CO when I was at Little Rock AFB 4 years ago! I'd love to buy your bike! I'm actually going to be in Little Rock next week visiting my sister and her husband. Let me know when I can come and take this off your hands! |

Got this today. Unbelieveable. Krystar....will send him the response you suggested above. I'm sure that will be the last I hear back:
Thanks for your reply. As i told you i am stuck here in the military base and i have restrictions in communicating due to the medical and physical exams that i have to complete. If you are really interested in buying it I have to let you know that I want a fast deal. The transaction will close only through eBay so we both will be protected. I want eBay because as they are the biggest US company and I think that we can close this deal fast and safe for both of us. I don't have to much time and also I am not very familiar with the internet transactions and eBay is the only one I know. Please let me explain how this transaction works. In order to complete this deal the payment must be sent to eBay. As soon as they receive the payment will notify me to start with delivery. After that you will receive all information about delivery. eBay will hold your payment until you receive and inspect the bike (you have 3 days for inspection) If you will find the smallest problem with the bike you will ship it back on my expense and eBay will make you a full refund. If interested I need your contact info for eBay, full name and shipping address so we can proceed.

Not sure if you are aware of this but every day piles of these ads are posted on craigslist around the country and probably the world. If something is priced way to good to be true than 99.9% of the time it is. Also - when you play with fire you get burned - not worth it to mess with these scammers - as much as you wish the item was actually for sale for that price. Just flag the ad and move on....
