the problem is that the mustang's sales, which totaled 73,716 units in 2010, aren't enough by themselves to make a huge factory such as autoalliance with its 1,700 workers a profitable operation.

Mazda deciding to bail & move the 6 model production back to Japan....so much for an "alliance" plant.

Just what Michigan needs...more job losses.

Auto production is going up in the US, not hugely but still up, so an assembly job lost will be matched by an assembly job gained. Of course, it may be in a different location. The fall in housing values has really hurt job mobility. People can't move to where the jobs are, well it is made more difficult anyway.

Thats too bad. But if it's a UAW plant, probably nobody will loose their jobs and will transfer to other plants. Less work, same workforce, same pay/benefits. Lets just have another bloated workforce.

I have to say the Mustang is the most prevalent new car I see in SoCal

That's sad. We know quite a few folks who work at that facility.
