Estate sale vs. garage/yard sale

Last year my GF and I started hitting Estate Sales. Came away with a few very nice things, including a 1967 Fender Bassman guitar amp head for $125. Killer deal.

Started looking on Craigslist again for Estate Sales. Hit about a dozen that were listed as "Estate Sale" yesterday. People apparently don't know that a "yard sale" differes from an "Estate Sale" any more.... old baby clothes, VHS tapes, and Tupperware do NOT make an "Estate Sale"

What a wasted day.

Is there a place online somewhwere that lists actual Estate Sales?

My wife says that Estate sales have better "stuff", so did you. If they had labeled it garage sale you would not have gone to it.

Lots of the people that run actual "estate sales" keep lists of customers, and will let them know when they have a new sale coming up in their area. Try to find the real estate sale folks and get on their lists.

Right, I suspect the folks know what the difference is and label their garage/yard/rummage sales as estate sales to get more traffic.

There are a few dealers in and around Seattle/Tacoma that deal exclusively in estate sales, as in setting them up and conducting them. One that comes to mind is Abigail's Estate Sales.

Eeexactly.
One thing I did see yesterday at one of the sales (didn't buy it though) was an old wooden Artillery slide rule.

last year, the Estate Sale that I got the Bassman head from turned out to be a guitar builder who had passed away, right around the corner from my house. Didn't even know about him. He had several amps, keyboarrds, PA system, guitars, wooden forms for luthiery, loads of luthiery and woodworking tools...wood blanks for guitar bodies...you name it. Someone could have literally bought his entire business and started up building. Wish I would have had the cash for it.

I've been going to estate sales for several years, and have had some fantastic finds.

You can find listings in your area on estatesales.net

Vin, that's where I'm running into the problem. Search Craigslist for Estate Sales, get nothing but yard sales being listed as Estate Sales.

Mossguy, I'll check into Abigail's, thanks!
