Question to married guys with stepchildren.

I'm being a good stepfather and going to my stepdaughters ballet recital Saturday.

Thing is, recital is for all classes at the school... and lasts three hours.

Question, dare I ask my wife if we can leave after we see her daughter dance?

I know it is bad form... should support all the kids at the school and all... but three hours?

Dude, any guy who didn't want to get out of a ballet recital ASAP needs a mancave intervention anyways. 3 hours would be torturous. I would argue that sitting through any ballet is being supportive, then again I lack culture

Wow, that's a tough one. I'd definitely ask!

You're happy to go see your little darling, but you don't have to want to see all of the others.

If its a once a year thing, suck it up and stay. If they do these once every couple months, leave at one of the intermissions.

Scott, Bubby, a few things, she is your wifes child, now very much yours: a child, not a step child.

The key to every piano recital, horse show, soccer game, cross country meet, graduation, etc. is the end, when all the kids and parents mingle and chat, when your child gets to share, and, if you are worthy, show you off.

Sit down and STFU, enjoy.

Step-son graduated high school last week. 420 students. As soon as they called his name, we were out of there. My wife's call.

Good advice... Last year I was out of town for the recital (they only do it once a year) and next year will be her last (graduating high school and going off to college).

Wife did give me a pass on her High School reunion...

Scott,

You are a fortunate man to get to have these incredibly boring, stupefying events in your life...I mean that sincerely. Take pictures...I learned that if I take them with my Black Berry, I can surf under the guise of editing photos.

I can only share so much, Young Jedi.

How would you like it if people were walking out interrupting/blocking the view of your child's performance?

1. No

2. No

3. Don't know, don't think so.

We are going to 2PM show, daughter has to stay for 7PM show... dad will be at that (7PM) show... it is his weekend so she is supposed to go home with him after.

We have been married for 2.5 years.

I do not, but I have my suspicions on who is the real-dad for my two

Kids see who stays and goes, who hangs. Time is the best thing we can give.

Scott, the important part is showing up for your stepdaughter. Its alright to excuse oneself for the rest. You canīt be everyones dad.

Although, from experience, I am not sure I could stomach just up and go in the middle of the show..

Good advice, wasnīt it!

Definitely NOT going to walk out during the show... I'm not that cold hearted.

Figure there will be two or three intermissions...

Also expecting to sit for the whole show... did I mention we are going to the 2PM show... and daughter has a 7PM show also? That means we will be alone at the house at least from 5 until 10

In for a penny, in for a pound. Unless you have to go perform an emergency appendectomy on Penelope Cruz, sit through the whole show.

The theater is in downtown Portland... what if there is a bar across the street from the theater?

Scott,

I feel for you....BTDT (the three hours at dance recitals)...in fact this will be the first year in a long time that we won't be doing it . Charlotte has changed studios and is concentrating on acrobatics (which is great fun to watch). But you do need to stay if only for the fact that all students may be involved in the finale bows?

It's only three hours once a year...you'll manage . Just please don't drop off to sleep as Mike usually would...very embarrassing when he would start to gently snore next to me . I developed a strategy for that - involved having one of Charlotte's friends sit on one side of him and me on the other - contest as to who could jab him in the ribs hardest and most swiftly whenever we would see his head start to gently droop .

Yes, Scott. A bar-intermission is fully acceptable (and perhaps crucial..).

. After your step-child performs, go for a whiz and arrange for the fire alarm to go off...........
