Pelican Veteran or just an old fart?

How many years/posts are required to reach the level of Pelican Veteran?

My son has been training karate for a couple of years and they are regularly upgraded with new belt colors or lines on their belts. There are so many steps from white to black that it makes my head spin. He will be 150 years old before he reaches the top end of the ladder.

Should we, for amusement, introduce a ladder with, say, 3-5 steps depending on a combination of years and post count? Starting with Newbie/Rookie/Fluffer moving on a couple of named steps ending with Veteran/Old fart.

.. or perhaps not.

I think it is a combination of years of membership, postcount and postcount per day that determine how much of a "veteran" you are.
Veteran is not an appropriate term. Regular, resident sound much better IMO.
Veterans are people that used to contribute but are now gone for one or the other reason.
At least that's the way I interpret that term.

You'll be the resident fluffer....

Thats brilliant. Although "durn for'ner" is very dear to me, "resident Fluffer" is rather appropriate too! Thanks!

OT posts should count at a 50% reduction, PARF posts should not count at all.

Then the post count would be more accurate as an indicator of forum contributions.

Maybe we can call the beginners Grasshopper and the old timers Yoda.

That mixes up two a TV show with a movies series and keeps it confused like PARF.

Absolutely. And why not? The majority of people, me included, belongs in that group amounting to Medium rare and once in a while Well done.

A scale measuring time wasted, apparently on something worth wasting time.

I say the PARF posts should be a debit on the ledger

Just a reminder: we are the inmates. This is not our asylum and we don't run it.
