cougar -not what you think!
Saw a cougar on the road up ahead of me on a spirited drive tonight -very cool. Rarely seen in Kansas
|
Damn, got excited :-P
Sometimes we see Deers here in the canyons, unfortunately sometimes we hit them :( No Pics? |
Ha -deer are way TOO common here- I saw about 10 tonight. No pic-he didn't hang around like deer do sometimes after they cross
|
The wife and i saw one about 4 winters ago.
We were driving on a snow covered dirt road (at night) when one came down the bank on our left made one bound in the road and was gone over the right side snow bank. They claim they're extinct here. |
I just about hit a peacock on my way to the gym today. Not a cougar but still scared the hell out of me. :D

Wildlife...
I once saw a beautiful pair of grey wolves on a ridge that overlooks a winding road in a semi-remote area I frequent to do high speed runs.
I never seem to have a camera handy when I need one. |

I saw a white deer standing in a field just off of the road a few months ago.

Seriously, I've rarely ever seen one, even when I was living where there are lots in the area (Calgary). They kinda tend to keep out of sight. It IS cool to get a little look, though. |
Saw a couple of cattle on our street...no, wait, they were ladies from the 'hood....
|
Those aren't calves, that's cattle... :)

My family owns property in southwest Kansas where Sand Creek runs. From what I'm told, mountain lions are indeed around. They are very reclusive but surface from time to time.
|
Isn't Kansas where that big area of basically a "sunken" canyon, very expansive, lives? I bet there are some in there!

Here's a pic taken of a Cougar in a oak tree less than a mile from my home. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1307633837.jpg

Amazing, the lengths animals will take when they're stressed or hungry. We've had sightings of a bear foraging through trash cans in a neighborhood just a few miles from us here, on the northern fringes of Lost Angeles. And a neighbor spotted a bobcat, of all things, padding down the middle of our street a couple of weeks ago. I think what's going on, for us, at least, involves the residual effects of the Station fire, the huge blaze we had in the mountains just to the north of us in 2009. Burned a lot of habitat, killed a lot of animals, and significantly disrupted food supplies for the animals that managed to find shelter and survival. I'd feed 'em all, if I could.

We've had coyotes in downtown Chicago. And I'm not using the term "downtown" the way most suburbanites or people outside of the city use it--I don't mean "a general location in the city" of Chicago. I mean actually down town, in the Loop, the actual city center where the tall buildings and Millennium park are.

coyotes are all over northeastern ohio now. gotten so bad we can't let the dogs out at night.
|
Coyotes in my backyard all the time, we hear them almost every night.
Had a grey wolf cross my path in March. My hairs all stood on end and we stared at each other from bat 50 meters away for a good 30 seconds. An encounter I won't soon forget. |
