Great Event for New England Pelicanites

This is kind of a shameless plug, but as a H.S. English teacher, I am also the faculty laison for our school's Automotive Club. Well, we are having our first annual car show on Friday, June 10, in the rear parking lot of Avon High School.

The car show will be used as a fund-raiser for club activities, including the repair and maintenance of a donated car that we are going to be working on (a Datsun Z-car) as well as the eventual purchase of a project car for the club. Admission is free; there will be a raffle, as well as refreshments and food for sale. Awards will be given out for Best of Show, People's Choice, etc.

If you have a "vehicle of interest" please feel free to bring it. We welcome all types of sports cars, muscle cars, off-roaders, hot rods, and motorcycles. If you know of anyone who might be interested, please let them know... or, if you just want to swing by and see some nice cars, please do swing by. I'll certainly be there with my 951... in any case, there is a lot of interest already, but if I can round up a slate of Porsches and Bimmers to help make this event a success, then all the better!

-CJ Fusco

I can't make it out there, but I will mention it to my dad. He really enjoys car shows and maybe he can bring his Corvette.

A little far away for me, but I would come if I could.

Great to hear you are sponsoring the club CJ, I wish my HS had offered something similar.

If the 73 is on the road by then (just starting a 3.2 transplant), I'll try to attend.

Excellent event, sadly too far for me though. If there was something like this near me I would go.

I googled the address:

510 West Avon Road
Avon, CT 06001

school calendar page: Avon Public Schools - Event Details

Yes - thank you for doing the legwork ddbach.

The H.S. is easy to find. Route 4 and Route 44 run parallel to one another; running between those is route 167, West Avon Road. I recommend taking route 84 to Farmington/Route 4, and following 4 right to 167.

It should be a fun event. The father of one of my students is a bigwig at the local Ferrari/Maserati dealership, and he (the student) insists that his father will bring a car. We also have a lot of local musclecar guys that plan on showing, as well as a few Porsche guys. Word is spreading, little by little.

Update

The planning stages are moving along swimmingly.

Also, we finally had our "project car" (for which the car show is a fund-raiser) dropped off to us - a 1982 Datsun 280Z Turbo. It needs a lot of work, but it should be fun!

I could, but as a 3X 240Z owner, I have to stand by statement. Such great cars these were.

^ true, but my 15 year-old students are very excited about this project; they couldn't care less that it's not as cool as a 240Z.

Best of luck with the project. Having HS kids bring a car back to life is a great way of growing more car enthusiasts.

The 2+2 makes it easier to take more than 1 kid out on shakedown test drives.

I wish I could make it CJ, but I'll be in California that day. Maybe you could try emailing Limerock Park to see if they can put out an ad for you. I occasionally get emails for other events from them and maybe they will take their BMW track-sponsored cars.

Bump for a good event.

The weather forecast for tomorrow night is looking good - 80, partly cloudy, almost no chance of rain. I have a partial list of cars that plan on attending; said list contains Italian exotics and many, many muscle cars; I would love for Porsche and BMW to be well-represented!
