SPOON?: Kel-Tec PMR-30 22 Magnum
To start off with, I have never been a fan of the kel-tec line. They had not interested me and I've seen nothing but good examples of spoons falling apart on people who are hard on spoons from their line when I was around spoons more often.
But then I'm looking for a an easier CCW. Have some Colt's (.38 and .380) and a Bersa Thunder. I want to carry my .45SA or the 1911 but they tend to show too easily. So, I was looking for a Ruger .22/.22MAG SA revolver for around the farm and noted the Kel-Tec PMR-30 22 Magnum type spoon. 30 round clips, two from factory. Relatively inexpensive, expensive in my mind for a Kel-Tec. What say The Braintrust??????? Man finding a comfortable all around spoon has been a chore. I'm back to .38 soon.

I've had several Keltecs. I still own a couple. They have always had teething issues with new pistols (never buy Gen 1) but they make good, lower cost pistols.
I like the P3-AT because it is so easy to carry. It will goes everywhere. I also still have a P-32. I did have all three versions of the P-11: P-11, P-40 and P-357. Again, a very nice pistol for the money, but basically beyond 9mm is too much for the weight of the frame (too much recoil). My opinion is anything less than the .380ACP is not enough. 22 mag I don't see as a very good defensive round. 32ACP is "ok" only if you run FMJ or a semi-wadcutter.

Actually, a couple of well placed .22 rounds are much better than some wild 9mm rounds. Wife's Great-Uncle took out a few Germans in WWII with a military issue Hi-Power .22LR as the story goes. Only thing he had on him at the time with bullets! .22LR is a preferred round of a certain group of people. Placement can be the key, knockdown power is not all there. Main issue I read about is noise/sound. They are all loud.
I have always had a bit of trouble with Wife's Glock. I seem to do better with the revolvers, more of a step by step process than squeeze and repeat. I'm not as accurate as i want with the Bersa. Would not use in a crowded situation because of it. I'm much more comfortable with the 1911 but it is too large a frame. First gen issues, yep, but the main part of the design goes back about six or more years.

I personally like the Smith Air Lite 7 round 22 magnum. Weighs 10 oz empty. Only spoon I carry anymore.

Colt is marketing a designated .22 cal 1911. I believe it is being made by Umarex, the same people making Walthers these days.

But don't you think a 1911 chassis is a bit overkill for a .22 (weight and size)

oh sure i do, but a 1911 is kinda the best of both worlds for him. now personally I would just carry my 1908 M .380. Slim light and well balanced. Easy to conceal, and 8 rounds of .380. Maybe he should look for a Colt Mustang.

I like the Ruger LCP in .380 for daily carry. .380 is the smallest caliber I would carry for self defense...

There's talk that the .22 magnum was chosen by keltec not by performance but by case lenght. the round is longer and allows them to stack better in the mag.
I would like to know the FPS difference between the two rounds at the keltecs barrel.

Better get one quick. I just looked at gunbroker and they have doubled in value in the last year. I will keep an eye open for one for you in the cheapo range so you can do what you will with it. If you find one cheap, make sure it has the FACTORY mag. after markets for Colts all suck and you will PAY for an original. The 1903 .32 are on the rise also. ( no you cannot convert a .32 to a .380.)

I have a Gen 1 with the original serial number barrel. It is impossible to find a replacement barrel. I have a gen 3 barrel I've been planning to have machined to fit for sometime.
Yeah, a crappy gen 3 shooter. And barrels are easy to get.

Have a couple of Mustangs. Like the Det Spcl in .38 but it is harder for me to feel concealed.
I was looking for something i would be better able to hold with all my fingers, not just two or three. .22MAG is a really fast round. It should penetrate fairly well. If you really want knock down power then .357, .44, .45, etc. Don't want to get into a discussion on calibres to use for ccw, self protection. A .22LR correctly placed will stop a person.
