Maybe some men. I have no desire to show off. Maybe that's why I have a white 911 and not a red cabriolet.
I have a 911 because I love to drive it. If I could not autocross anymore I would sell it.

from the article...
One last issue here – what about the women who drive Porsches? Are they -- like men -- displaying their peacock feathers in search of a mate? Sorry guys – apparently not. “We don’t find that women spend money that way to attract men,”says Sundie. “So clearly when we do find that when women spend money on expensive items as they tend to do, it must be for some reason other than attracting the opposite sex.” You see, gentlemen….we’re just not that important to women. They won’t buy a flashy car just to sleep with us. ![]() However - Welpe seems to be like bait for 25-year-old guys - blick...

Hmm. What does that say about me? I have a 911 ... and a Civic.
Odd that they put that last paragraph in about womens' motivations for buying a Porsche. Actually, they didn't say why women buy a Porsche. Just that it's not for the same reasons that men do. Seeing as how half the Porsches driven around here are by women, that's an odd omission/sampling error.

I question the veracity of this supposed "study" and its conclusions. My 911 is a beautiful car, but I truly do not care what it looks like. Its appearance is accidental. Indeed......it's body style is the result of stretching sheet metal over the mechanicals underneath, frankly. I drive a 911 for its performance, pure and simple.
And......I notice that women can't seem to resist driving and riding in convertibles. Women, not men, are the "Look at me" gender. They also spend a fair amount of time and money on their body and face appearance. Guys are happy to attend a social dinner in their overalls with stubble on their faces. This article is manufacturing a "truth."

Women may not spend money on CARS to show off, but they certainly do spend money on their bodies -- clothes, makeup, hair, various accessories. While most men can't tell the difference between a $20 handbag and a $2000 handbag, I've known women who can smell a real Louis Vuitton from a distance of about two blocks.

Not me. I love the way my Speedster looks. It makes me smile every time I look at it. That goes for the coupe and the 911 too.

Centuries ago my neighbor had a pink Buick. Pink on burgandy. PINK!!!!!
HIS wife thought it was funny until, one day, she was following him. All sorts of women would honk at him, wave to him, blow him kisses, he even claimed (in private) to being flashed. Car was painted a few days later.
