questions for the bathroom remodel saavy.

my goodness, what an adventure. we are about to texture the walls. the end is in sight.

a question. my wife and i are at opposite sides of the world when it comes to shower door. i want some variation of frosted glass. she wants clear glass. i hate that squeegee requirement after a shower. it just sucks.

we are at the point where we need a decision. are shower curtains ghetto? thinking of just tossing up a decent curtain to take a break from going around picking things. we talked to a shower door company, and we were quoted a reasonable price for some good glass with a coating to minimize streaks. the price includes measurements, delivery and installation. (our shower is standard 60")

i am going to paint tomorrow night, and get some friends in there that owe me to put up the tiles. the BR should be fully functional by monday!! then a few hours to get a trash pickup. (and install shelving in my new BR closet.)

i never want to do this again. thankfully my BR was nice and tight, and DRY upon demo. zero rot.

i gave up and gave my wife 100% executive power to pick the shower hardware....saved a fight there. i dont like her choice, but at this point, if water sprays out of it, i'm good.

Forested glass isn't all bad, still you have to clean it sooner or later. If you squeegee it after each shower, takes about 20 seconds, it should be kept clean for three weeks before you really have to get the Windex out. This keeps water from collecting on flat surfaces. Have a look at the forested glass to the shower and toilet.

What kind of kitchen cabinets do you and how do you like it?

Dang! It took you 3 minutes to cave in according to your two posts.

Personally, I like the frameless clear glass.

I have curtains. Can't figure out a way to have glass with a freestanding clawfoot tub, but I would sure like to. Anyone see that?

If its clear, or frosted frameless glass, and the dimensions aren't dead nuts square, and standard size that you can return, hire a shower door company to measure and install. Trust me on this.

I concur with Trekkie about the tile. If you have friends that owe you manual labor, have them split your firewood or mow your lawn.

I don't think shower curtains are ghetto at all

If you and your wife share the bathroom, go clear - either a clear shower curtain or a glass door; leads to a better marriage if you get my drift.

We have a glass door that has some kind of coating on it, we don't ever squeege and it looks quite good.

Just my 0.2

If it's anything like the one I pulled out of my bathroom, it has a coating on it because you never squeegee it.

That might explain why my wife installed a dark, heavy curtain in my shower.

That coating works for the first 30 seconds. Think of it as a good wax. There isn't any easy way out of cleaning. It's glass.

ALMOST DONE. my fingers are siliconed.

so far, only one real mistake. i put the shower head a tad low. i will need to revisit shower options later. NEVER let your tiny wife dictate shower height. she loves it! but right now, i can only wash from my chin down. my nipples will be squeeky clean.

my buddies are tiling fools. i learned alot. i would have been a solo disaster. i am trading CE calcs for their labor. i have to engineer a shear wall for one guy, and stamp plans for an elevated deck for another.

and i am not trimming windows so well. i hope putty and grout will hide a few sins.

Is it too late to swap out the shower head for a hand held shower head? This way it can adjust up and down for both of you.

EDIT: I should have clearer. I was thinking a hand held on an adjustable rod like Hugh R says.

You can get shower heads with a hose on a vertical adjustable rod in addition to hand held. Most women like a hand held for obvious reasons.

To wash their backs? Couldn't they just turn around?

I did the same f*ckup with my shower head; I was standing on the joist when I determined the position - not taking into account the subfloor and shower pan. The shower head ended up about 1" higher than it originally was. I installed a swivel fitting, so the wife can drop it down to her level (5' 2") and I can have it up at mine (6' 2").
