Could California suck even more?

I just heard this..is it true?

You can't build a house with a wood burning fireplace in California....a electric or gas is OK.

What is in the friggin water in this state, I can't imagine living under this kind of repression.

Too many people, too many fires, too many inversion layers.

In Santa Clara county the fireplace rule is true. My chimney was cracked during the Loma Prieta quake (during the world series). The inspector came out and if my chimney was cracked below the shoulder, I would have to rebuild it as a gas or electric. If it was above the shoulder it could remain wood. I was lucky and it was above the shoulder.

I believe this is a local AHJ restriction so YMMV depending on municipality, but I'd need to confirm (haven't done residential in CA in a while).

In Michigan, you can probably burn your house down legally.

I burn wood in my fireplace, my smoker, my grill and my outdoor firepit, no one cares. I'm sure they have wood burning ordinances in the densely populated areas which kinda makes sense.

Besides, as every native Californian knows, the real problem out here is the nutbags from Iowa, Michigan, New York, etc. that move out here and try to run the place. We need to put up a fence that works on both Mexicans and Easterners.

Not just CA.... other states, too.

Many places in CO, Denver for example.

Albuquerque, NM...

Have inversion problems.

I have a friend who's parents had a house in Aspen, CO built Many years ago. Had 5 wood burning fireplaces.

When they sold the house, the guy that bought it tore it down and built a new house with 2 WB fireplaces.

He sold the rights to the other 3 fireplaces for $100k to $150k EACH.

You can't get a permit for a new FP there, but you can use the rights to an old one.

Of course, the irony of CA banning fireplaces, but allowing big forest fires ...well, the "you are not allowed to cut back brush...

In terms of Aspen RE, $150k is like one or two bricks in a wall. Not even a popcorn fart.

My cure for this is that people who move to a different state their vote only counts 1/2 of a native of that state.

There's also my Barstow redevelopment plan. ANYONE regardless of wealth, class, status etc. If they move to California must first stay in BARSTOW for three years. Yes, they can travel out of BARSTOW once a month to visit other parts.

After they have completed their stay in BARSTOW they can move within 20 miles of the coast. That being said. If they marry a Californian. They can move within 3 miles.

Next is that they pay 50% more for water, trash and power.

Don't forget about our "spare the air" days. Even if you still have a wood burning fire place they still won't let you burn a fire during certain weather conditions. They say all the fires put too much particulate in the air.

Funny, everyone wants to be the last one let on to the island (so to speak). . . .always pushing for more restrictions, while at the same time bemoaning their property 'equity' vanishing. Oh well, at least you all get to pay for all those restrictions. -paradise!

I am still puzzled. 9 out of my 10 neighbors are from the east cost. they are all professionals and can think on their own just like many of us here. Why are they still here if this place suck that bad? maybe they know something you don't know Romad? I just don't understand all the dislike about CA, but they want to come here to visit and drive our p car roads and go to our cars and coffee.

How come there are not too many(none that I have seen) b!tch posts about other states by the people from CA? We all know how bad they can be.

There are plenty of east coast states with even dumber laws than CA has, particularly those concerning alcohol, tobacco, firearms, bldg. permits and taxes. I grew up in NJ, lived in VA for 13 yrs. and just spent the last week there. You couldn't pay me anything to move back there. I'd rather flip burgers in AZ. Wouldn't move to CA either. I love to visit and I love to leave.

I can see why you want to stay in AZ. The northern parts are very nice. the southern part of the state is too hot for me.

Just turned my a/c on last night for the first time this year. S'posed to be 100 today, but that's comfy with 8% humidity. Sure is nice to only pay $1500 a year in prop. taxes for a house that would cost $1 million in SoCal, but was a fraction of that here. Gonna swim in my pool again tonight.
