PPOT game: '59 356a cab on ebay... place your bets!

Have a look at this auction:
Porsche : 356 | eBay

340+ pics here:
https://picasaweb.google.com/dustycars/1959Porsche356ACabrioletBlack

Auction ends on July 1st

Here's the game: You have till the end of day on June 28th to guess what the final sale price is. Whoever guesses the closest wins Wayne's 959

There are LOTS of pics (too many!), enough for a buyer to get a pretty good sense for what the car's all about. As ropey as it is, I have a pretty bad crush on it

Could I have a box of cigars instead of Wayne's 959? I'm sure I'd use those more.
$41,100...my guess.

Have to pick it up in California and drive it home. Really... would that be so bad?

Not so bad, but $32k would also be the cost of the speeding tickets I'd accumulate on the way back...

$16K???

$26K??

$32K??

Youze guys are nuts!

This will be bid to at least $65K, and my guess is at that it won't meet reserve.

$16K, lol. We're not in 1986 anymore.

crazy talk. Have you looked at all the pictures... the ones shot closer than 15 feet? Not like this is a straight, solid restoration candidate. It looks like someone took a rusty, balled-up 356 and welded in new floors, brushed on 2 coats of Rustoleum and added just enough shiny bits to make it look good in pictures. If you look at some of those underbody pics, you can see there are new panels welded to dodgy ones.

Still, I like it.

No, I didn't look that closely.

Still, I'll be closer than any guess so far!

Excellence said $76K for a bad one to $117K for a really good one quite some time ago. It will be interesting what happens here.

She's adorable!

Seriously. I'd like to win Wayne's 959 and I know that instructing you guys is not a good strategy, but here are two potentially relevant facts (make that three) :

1) Automobile purchase decisions are done with emotion, usually. Sometimes lots of it and
2) 356's, particularly ragtops, are some of the cutest cars EVER BUILT and
3) There are not that many ragtop 456's out there (and now, refer to #2).

I say the buyer will not pay too much for this car.

OK, those of you who are saying +60k, have you looked at the last 75 pics? Maybe I'm out to lunch, but I have a hard time imagining even 50k for this car. It would be interesting to hear from people currently in the market for a 356, to see how they perceive this car.

Speaking of which... Remember a few years ago when you could still find a decent daily driver (complete, driving but a bit tatty) 356 coupe for around 25k ? The same cars seem to be in the 40-50k range now. Too bad... I always liked the 356 coupes, but they are becoming out of reach now.

I don't know that I could really use one as a DD anyway, unlike a 911. I could DD a 356 replica though, and some of the replica coupes are tempting. My dream pcar would be to take a 911 tub, and cut it down to put a replica 356 body on it. Best of both worlds. There's an Intermechanica 356 with a 3.2 on Ebay right now.

I remember reading about 10 years ago a Grassroots Motorsports issue on "Great Porsche buys for 10K" or something along those lines that featured (among the 951 and 928S4) the 911T and 356 coupes. Days gone by...

Did you happen to see the one owner 356C on Bring a Trailer yesterday? Doesn't seem to be getting much love due to it's rust issues.

Here's my dream 356:

$52,995 and I'll take Wayne's 962 instead of his 959 if that's OK with you.
