why do women treat the impending arrival of the cleaning lady as a royal visit

So what is it about "the cleaning lady is coming tomorrow....so everyone go clean up everything" that makes sense to you?

Its like a total panic falls over my wife the night before the cleaning lady comes. Everyone has to scramble around the house and pick up stuff and get it all ready for the cleaning lady. Then when she arrives, we have to be all smiles and be extra nice and get out of her way.

I'm paying her the $100+ bucks!

Anyways, I'm sure it is down to some kind of woman guilt about having someone else do the chores

Or perhaps is the fear of being chastised by the cleaning lady for failing to "prepare" properly

Or maybe she is afraid that the cleaning lady will not come back.

Anyways, I always find it deeply ironic

I used to straighten up the house before my cleaning lady came. Nothing sucks worse than having to call her and ask where she hid this or that because I left it laying about.

My wife has recently become addicted to Groupon and bought a one-time cleaning without asking me about it. I work from home and cannot have a vacuum cleaner running or other noise going on while working. I don't think I want to take my laptop to Starbucks and work for a few hours with a stranger in the house either.

I agree 100%

Why in the heck to I have to go through the house and empty every trash can before she comes?

I makes no sense to me.

The only cleaning you do before she arrives is to lock away jewelry and small valuables that you don't want "cleaned".

That and I read somewhere that most women view their house as and extension of themselves (insert phsyco babble here)

Oh man! You too? Trying to convince my wife that spending money on stuff we wouldn't normally do doesn't save us money!

My cleaning lady has been with my family for decades... she has the key to my house and cleans when I'm at work.

Deb has cleaned my house for 10 years - she gets upset if I 'pick-up' before she comes over.

I lived alone for a long time and learned the hard way - the cleaning person cleans after all the crap is picked up and put away. If there is crap everywhere, she spends her time picking up and putting away (usually in a totally illogical place) and not cleaning. Or she'll vacuum around anything laying on the floor and dust around anything on the table.
So I go through that routine every Tuesday. Get up early and pick up, empty the vacuum, and make sure everything is ready so when she gets here she spends all her time cleaning.

kinda like yer mom being more worried about you haveing clean skids on on case you get hit by a car.......

I do believe it is a woman thing. And it is a "thing" my woman does........

On the other hand, the less "cluttered" the place is, the better job they can do actually "cleaning" it.

I am good with that.

What Vinman said was pretty close for me. I could immediately see that she excelled at all three of those tasks, plus she had a day job.

The cleaning lady is not the housekeeper

Guys,

A cleaning lady is employed to clean. She is not a housekeeper.

If you want the house to be cleaned, then she needs to be able to do that without having to move a stack of stuff out of the way first.

If you want someone to tidy up after you; put your things away etc then you need a housekeeper.

The two are not one and the same - sorry .

When I had a cleaning lady; the deal was that we would clear our crap and put things away so she could come in and clean. She was there for a set time (more or less) and I expected in that time she could accomplish what she was paid to do. That meant giving her a clear run at her job.

rather than "tidy up" or hire a housekeeper, just load up whatever you really want and burn the house with the rest in it

do that every few years and you will be amazed at how easy it is to get rid of clutter

My wife picks up before our cleaning lady too. Most of it I think is just getting stuff out of her way and picking up/putting away shoes, sport equipment, etc so she can focus more on cleaning instead of moving all our crap around. I look at it like I'm getting two cleaning ladies for the price of one! LOL!

This is the reason I have a cleaning lady. My wife would never pick up otherwise.
