William Jeanes on Blogs and Car Magazines
A post on the main bbs about Car and Driver's assessment of the new 911 reminded me of this - a piece written a couple of months ago by longtime CandD staffer William Jeanes in a monthly newsletter that goes out to automotive writers. It's an interesting read that covers Jeanes' take on the state of automotive magazines, blogging about cars and more and kind of mirrors what some others have been thinking, but not saying publically. I'd be interested to hear what anyone else thinks of it. Find it here:

That was kind of a scatterbrained rant against automotive bloggers.

I found William "don't call me Bill" Jeanes to be tedious and pompous during his reign at C&D. It appears not much has changed in his retirement.

Well...that was a long read. I'll sum up my thoughts this way. When C&D fired Brock Yates, I let my subscription expire.
Jeanes? I didn't care one way or the other. I wouldn't count him among my favorite automotive writers...pretty much middle of the pack. My top two? Brock Yates and Peter Egan. Egan #1 of those out there today as far as I'm concerned.

I bailed when Csaba Csere abruptly left the helm.

The same story, with a few changes, could have been written by a old newspaper man, sportswriter, cookbook writer, appliance repair writer etc, etc, etc. The world, it is a changing fellas.
