Ever seen a train wreck?

The question was asked on the Casey Anthony thread.
Yes I have. I was almost in it. I was sitting at a crossing with two tracks, waiting for the train to get through, getting kind of mesmerized by the cars going by in a blur. The train was on the far track, going from my right to my left. At some point I saw a set of train wheels rolling along by themselves as if they were on the near track. I thought, "Hmm, that's odd." Then I saw a set of wheels go by tumbling end over end, then a car with no wheels, then more cars, then a huge cloud of dust and loud booming sounds off to my left and the cars slowed down and finally stopped. I realized those sets of train wheels were only about 10 feet away when they went by my '64 Plymouth Valiant at about 35 mph. They would have wiped it out. About 20 box cars had piled up side by side, the last one was about 10 yards to the left of my car. If the train hasn't stopped there would have been another two cars in the pile and I would have been in between the next two. I was in high school, on my way to take the SAT test.

Haven't seen a train wreck, but I saw a chain reaction car accident in the rear-view mirror.

After a snowstorm in NY, I was on I-890 headng to work. The fast lane still had unplowed snow. The middle and right lanes had some light cover, so cars were going slowly. I looked in the rearview to see an econobox trying to pass the traffic in the snowy left lane. He went into the guardrail, spun and then was thrown back across the freeway. It caused a 30+ car pile up. If he had been any farther forward, it would have been my car he would have hit.

I was on a train in western Kansas that hit a pickup truck when I was a kid. We didn't feel anything on the train, not even a little bump. We stopped, backed up... it was awful. Some things never go away... those images...

I was on a train headed to Washington when we hit a kid on a motorcycle...it didn't have a happy ending. Sort of put a damper on the trip...

in my RX-7..
around midnight
roads are flooded..
taking a new way home..
'caution water ahead'
brake..spin..
ending up on the track with all 4 wheels of the ground..
nuthin I can do..
bing..bing..oh yes..
here comes the train..
it's rolling slow..
get my jacket & papers..
running toward the train..
'my car is down there..'
what ? the guy yells..
out of breath.. I just stand in the rain..
headlights tumbling in the air..

train 1..RX7 kaputt..
