TV what would you do ?

I have a Magnavox 50 inch DLP rear projection TV that we've had for about 10 years now. In that time it has been rock solid but it has needed a new projection bulb about every 2-3 years. The bulb went out again the other day and I'm pondering spending another $100.00+ for a bulb or getting a new flat screen. The new flatscreens in 40-50 inch size have come way down in price and I'm wondering what to do. This is not our main TV but is used a fair amount. What would you do ?

For $100 I would fix it. But I'm cheap.

Put it on Craig's List and get some money for it and go with a flat screen.

It will cost you at least $10 to get rid of it.

Put it on the curb with a free sign on it, they'll take it quick.
Then buy a samsung flat screen, you won't regret it.

To me, it depends on what you watch and the source.

E.g. I watch my TV off TiVo recorded at basic quality. I wouldn't spend up for a better TV, presuming my old one was large enough. If you watch HD, BluRay, etc then get a new TV. I admit I'm not much of a videophile.

Depends, I spent $100 to replace a bulb on the kids playroom 50'.

They use it so rarely it'll last another 10 years.

In my opinion its time to move on. Better picture quality and lower energy costs with newer technology.

I had a 55" Mitsubishi rear projection HDTV that worked just fine. Other than being older and huge I decided it was time to replace. Got a 50" Panasonic plasma and never looked back.

beside all the above, you also save space with a flat panel.

Throw it out and don't replace it. Read a book or hang out on the internet.

Our 5 1/2 year old $1500 Dell 32" LCD TV just died. It can't be repaired and a replacement costs about $400. My father gave us an older TV that he was throwing away and we're using it. We don't watch enough TV to justify spending the $ on it. Unfortunately, the cost to repair the TVs really doesn't make sense...

LOL, 4400+ posts in OT but won't "waste time" watching TV. I love it.

Yes, I'm guilty of it to a greater extent. But I watch TV.
