$50.00 for 2 drinks---??????
My daughter just got back from Las Vegas and stayed at a very nice hotel not on the strip but close. A new one in fact. They ordered 2 drinks at the pool and the tab for two was $44.00 and a 6.00 tip. Am I amazed or what. Have drinks gotten that expensive lately? A screwdriver and a Margarita. Now I might be behind the times, but when did drinking become so expensive? Is this the norm in most high end places or what. They threw a hissy fit at our local club when the beer went to $2.00. Imagain paying 2 dollars for a beer. What's this world coming to. Thoughts?

Wow! I'm glad I don't drink...

To hell with the drinks; If I'm paying $275 for a lap dance she better be making me breakfast the next day.

The hotel across from my place gets $18 on up for a glass of wine. $10 for a Corona. What else are you going to spend your money on?

Why it's 1 ZAR = 0.1495 USD +0.00131 (0.880%) It's still a $1367 tab, but 9 lap dances and a private booth? That dude's a perv or rich, or both. |

A fool and his money are my best friends ;) There used to be a place in Ensenada called Bananas. $1 coronas and they still made a killing. |
Try ordering a drink at an airport... ask me how I know
Booze has got crazy stupid expensive... all this designer label crap... vodka... VODKA! The booze for people who don't want to taste the booze. And don't get me started on $50>$100 Tequila, when I was in my 20's it was the cheap go to booze... run across the boarder and get a case for less than $20. But as they say "whatever the market will bear" |

Vegas has gotten stupid expensive. When I was there for a company conference in January, we regularly racked up $5-10k bar tabs each night. A very mediocre team dinner in one of the restaurants in Mandalay Bay was around $90 per person. They get away with this because so few people pay with their own money. It's company money and so no one cares. I think, when we had the roof bar at The Hotel by Mandalay Bay rented for a night, it was $13 per drink minimum. My boss got charged that for a can of Red Bull. It's insane. I don't spend my own money that way. At my local liquor store a 1.75 litre bottle of Maker's Mark is $29 with tax when it's not on sale. I'm better off taking a flask when I travel.

Ah -the great sushi debacle -
My first business trip to Vegas - customers want to go to some way high end sushi place... Being naive - sure... A $4,000+ bill for 10 people, I just looked at the bill and wanted to die - it wasn't easy to explain. $400 per person. Oh well - happy customers, and I continue to be gainfully employed.... and still with a no-limit business credit card. ;) |
A fool and his money are soon partying.

I guess they figure that most people will be too embarassed to complain and since you are a tourist you won't be back every week. Besides, if you drink enough you won't care. When in Manhattan (NY), the rule of thumb (for less than wealthy people like me) is to look at the prices on the menu (put in the window) before you go into the restaurant. If they don't post the prices in the window the remember the old adage: if you have to ask "how much?" then you can't afford to eat here. For the finer establishments, do your research before you make a reservation.
As someone else said, I'm glad I don't drink any more. While we're on this, how can you spend $3-5 for one pack of cigarettes? I remember buying a carton for $5-8 (name brand). The price of lung cancer has gone way up since I smoked. |
When I was 21, 2 drinks caused me to get married.......Cost me hundreds of thousands..........

We were just in Australia last April, I paid $10 oz money for a glass of beer many times and mixed drinks were from $15-20, good thing I only drink cheap beer.

A few places (not strip clubs, but nice upscale bars) in NYC where or dris were in the mid $20s each and have had shots get pretty pricy as well.. When going out, you are paying for more than just the drink, but the experience, a good bartender can make or break that & location.

From the sound of it, most of you guys would shudder at my monthly "entertainment" expense. But I'm 23 and living it up in Chicago, what else am I going to spend my money on?

Last night at the Arena bar in Ann Arbor, $3.50 for a Corona beer at happy hour, $1.50 more for a burger and fries (includes choice of cheese, plus lettuce and tomato). The burger was not tiny or skanky either, in fact it was pretty good.
