Rich dad, Poor dad - great rip off
What a lousy book that was. I read it a long time ago and found out recently that it's still a best seller! Kiyosaki is also still selling out his seminars! That guy didn't have any useful advice then so I'm amazed he continues to be successful.
Has anyone else read that guy's book? |

I've read it. His book is to financial advice as Yahoo's front page is to news.
But, it's easy to assume that everyone has a basic level of financial knowledge. I'm sure the content is somewhat eye opening to those with zero financial sense.

I've read some of it, figured the rest would be no better than the part I read, and returned it to the library. Glad I didn't buy it.

(My emphasis) Unfortunately that is true in too many instances.

The Millionaire Next Door is a more scholarly read IMHO but still an awful lot of common sense (though backed up with a lot more quantitative analysis). I also think they take it a bit too far - I mean what's the point of living life in virtual misery for decades in order to amass money to have when you're too old to enjoy it?
As with most things, it too needs to be taken with a grain of salt. Balance - enjoy life but don't get carried away and consider the opportunity cost of discretionary purchases (that $20k Porsche today REALLY costs you maybe $50k or $60k in lost ROI... But I'd say if you weigh that and are willing to accept it and really want it, why deprive yourself? YMMV. |

Very true P-o-P on MND....you only live once...enjoy it, but like everything else...moderation. see thread on what we pay for things and what we get out of them.

bought the book last year - with an open mind and started to read. Early on I found his "conversations" as a kid with (which dad?) pretty much un-believeable.................WAAAAAY too 'wordsmith-like'...............lost interest towards the end
But it did make me think...................and I gathered a few worth while nuggets of info. So for me it was worth the price and reading time................but no more

I read it. It gets you pumped up, but if you think about it, he actually doesn't say anything. He's to financial advise as Joel Olsteen is to religion. It's just a lot of smoke up your butt.
