OK gang I took the risk, my life, my car, my license...

Early this morning I was on a open stretch of Interstate with no traffic and I decided to drop the hammer on 3928 since I had my Garmin turned on. At about 130 I shifted to 5th gear and continued to climb until 156! As the car approached a slight elevation of the interstate I figured that would be it, but to my surprise 157 popped up on the GPS display, I looked at the speedo which was beyond the 145 mark and back at the road observing traffic just ahead and lifted. After slowing to a safe speed I notice the GPS in the passenger seat was now reading reading 158 for max speed.

Ford claims top speed is 151mph, and the only thing different from stock is Brenspeed 93 octane program, Drive shaft (Shaftmasters), Steeda pulleys, BBR trailing arms and KR Mufflers. It may have pulled out another mph or two but that would be about it's limit. The road noise was wicked! The fastest I've been on the road was 164mph in a corvette back in the late 90's.

What you have read is by a trained expert dump a**! So don't do this at home!

At the time of completing this stunt the car was stable, but alot of harmonic noise transfering from the drive line at 135 and above. I think it maybe the shaft transfering the road noise by way of the Hurst shifter. But no vibrations were felt from the noise, so I kept going! I think with the shifter and drive shaft there is no longer anything to isolate the road noise at high speeds. The car actually performed above my expectations as I expected 156 to be it's limit.

So there it is my early morning (2am) road test of my 2008 Bullitt with now showing 18,912 miles on a well lit section of interstate. Remember KIDS! Don't try this at home!

Danny...U don't like my posts, ya don't have to read 'em, you know. Is it upsetting you to know that a low on the pecking order 4.6 Mustang could run & hide from most of the "superior" cars here?

Yes, terribly upsetting that a "belly-button" car could out-run most cars here... but not mine. SmileWavy

Danny...why don't you join Stephanie for a track day...compare your times with her Boss 302? And keep in mind, her Boss 302 still isn't the top of the Mustang pecking order, power wise...

Me? I'm just an old guy who uses a Bullitt Mustang to get to the pool hall & back...following all the traffic laws all the time. :rolleyes:

My challenge is we swap cars (so that my outstanding good looks don't sway the results) and cruise along the beach strip here (A1A). The car that receives the most yells/waves/flashes from the young women is the winner...

I found one after a millisecond of searching. I did have to navigate away from pelican to do it though, it seems as thought this BBS is mostly European cars with a heavy Porsche content.

I heard about a guy with a Porsche 997S getting his jollies going 155mph on I-90 here in WA. Probably just an urban legend......

150+ MPH on an interstate? Seems ill advised at best.

One of my engineer friends that designs transportation corridors once mentioned that roads, whether local or interstate, are designed for a particular speed + a safety margin. That includes things like guard rails, turn radius, crown of road, shoulders, etc - beyond the safety margin, things can get pretty unpredictable and lead to some pretty serious consequences.

2am = reduced visibility. I don't know about Oregon's wildlife, but I've passed many moose, bear and deer late at night on highways up here. I've also seen the results of a deer jumping into the path of an oncoming vehicle and a moose going through the windshield of a 911 - not something you would want to take your chances with.

Personally, I've gone off a race track at speed a couple of times - I can't think of anywhere on a public highway system that I would want to do that. Got an itching for speed? Why not take it to the track. Top speed in a straight line? Who cares - there is always someone that is faster than you. In this case.... a bone stock 1984 928 S4 or is that too exotic?! ;)

Basically, I'm suprised an ex-cop would behave this way- If he had any highway patrol experience, he's probably had to clean up some accidents in his time. Why chance it?

exactly right. in daylight, he was outdriving his stopping sight distance. at night, it was compounded by him outdriving his headlights.

ex-cop? extra sucky. man up and drive it like that somewhere safe..like the salt flats..or ship it to the autobahn with that policeman pension.

Nope...didn't happen in Orygun. Like I said, I wouldn't try it these days. But I have seen pics of p-car speedos posted here.

My brother is a retired cop and an azzwhole behind the wheel. One day he will hurt someone. Maybe it is from years of driving disposible patrol cars.

I'm still not understanding why it helped to be a retired cop.

I was expecting to read that he got busted doing 150 but was let go with a warning.

It wasn't a good idea for Ryan Dunn to drive triple digits in the middle of the night but because this was a Mustang I guess it was OK? ;)

Usually...near the door closest to my favorite table. It's only a Ford, after all. Actually, this spot is usually well protected...between the door & Jim's Van. Customer parking only back there...others get towed.

Didn't say I'd do this, did I? Evidently, this guy was a better driver than Ryan Dunn? Police training, you know.

Or, didn't drive drunk? That may have had a bearing on Dunn's accident...:rolleyes:

Never...it's a fugging FORD, for chrissakes. Right now, it's sitting in the garage, front end covered with bugs. It's wash/wax can wait...I mowed the lawn today instead.

So, nope...I just pop the trunk, remove our cue cases, our espresso thermos, the water bottle, and go in to play.

Really, there are quite a few pool halls in Florida...you should go into one some day. They're great places to study human nature. Just walk in with a cue case, lay a few hundreds on the rail of the table, and say: "I'll give anyone here the 8." You might also wear a T shirt with a fish on it...

If wearing a hat, do you give it the "cowboy salute" (two fingers lightly tapping the brim) as you walk away?

158 in a Bullitt Mustang is really great. I had no idea they were that fast. But it is one fine looking car, a real sleeper.

My old F-car did 190 or so. Girls always thought it was the new Mustang, since it had a horse on the hood. LMAO! 220.... now that's impressive. 158, not so much. Most of my bikes will do that.

168 in my Pantera (FL Turnpike) before I let off (the bike I was "racing" let off @ 140 or so). The Italian tuna can was rattling like Katherine Hepburn's head in a helicopter and I could feel the front end getting light (didn't have a front splitter/spoiler). (And I'm not even a retired cop!).

That's just what Paul titled the thread... maybe he thought it helped because the guy had some experience at the wheel of a heavy car going in a straight line.

2am, 158mph, retired cop. One man thinking he's above the law. Sounds like being intoxicated to me. The proper authorities ought to locate, jail and permanently remove any retirement benefits for being a dump a$$. That ought to fix his wagon. However, I'd be willing to bet there is a recidivist in this ex-law enforcement officer, just never been caught.

I posted a pic of my speedometer once (taken by my wife) at 165 (or so) and Mustang Paul yelled "BS" because he didn't think that the tach was in the right place...

(V12's don't need big RPM's to go real fast)
