Buckhead, Atlanta
It's been ~10yrs since I've been to Buckhead neighborhood Atlanta (GA). Great city. Anyway, I'll be spending a day and a night in the area in July w/family and I figured I'd ask if there were any must do/see cool things around the Lenox area, besides the shops & restuaruants? Is the Maggiano's still there across from the SwissHotel/Palm? TIA.

One Star Ranch. Great beef ribs. Great pork ribs. Not great in ambiance . . .

Was there last week. Ate at Canoe. Was great. On the river. My favorite place to walk around was the Atlanta Botanical Gardens. I spent several hours there, could have been more. We also visited the GA Aquarium and the World of Coke. Those are on the same grounds. I suggest the Aquarium early in the day. It gets very busy as the day goes on. Of course the gardens, aquarium and coke are not in Buckhead but only about 15min drive.

Maggiano's is still there, that area has a lot of new high rise hotels there so it should look quite different. Most of the stuff in that area is just restaurants and shopping other than the Atlanta History Center and the Governor's Mansion.

Buckhead restaurant......
Fogo de Chao. All you can eat of some very, very excellent food! Skip the salad bar and wait on the meat! Beef, pork, lamb.........etc. Everything you can imagine and then some.

No 3-dollar cafe closed many years ago. Buckhead transitioned to a quiet unexciting area since they shut down bars to quell the escalating violence and subsequent complaints from the neighbohood. So do not expect a lot of night life these days.
Resturants still abound like the old standard Maggianno's, but if your looking for something to do , the Aquarium and World of Coke are it, unless you want to catch a Braves Game, especially since your in town with family. Of course you still have the High Museum, IMAX at Fernbank, Puppetry Arts if you have young kids, etc, etc. By the way its been one hell of a hot spring so far (90's everyday). Bob 73.5T |

Bacchanalia is the best restaurant in Atlanta but 10 miles from Buckhead.
Bacchanalia Restaurant - Atlanta, GA | OpenTable I'd also recommend a tour of the Governor's Mansion and the Atlanta History Center (located in the center of Buckhead). Atlanta History Center - Located on 33 acres of history in Buckhead, Atlanta I don't recommend using public transportation.

What Fred said. Fogo is adjacent to my neighborhood and when the wind is right the aroma drifts my way. Mmmmmm

Back in the 80's, Buckhead was a great place to go. Lots of bars, parties and women. Now it's a quiet zone.
EDIT: I want to say things like Freaknik really speeded up the demise of Buckhead being a great place to party. |

Okay, thanks. I'm heading out on Friday w/family. I was going to take the MARTA Gold Line from ATL out to Buckhead since the hotel we are staying at is a short walk from the Doraville stop in the Lenox area. Is MARTA still reasonably safe?

We are staying in the JW Marriott on Lenox Rd. Wife, son, & me fly into ATL early and will hang out for the day an do some last minute shopping in the Lenox Mall area before catching an international flight out the next morning for vacation. Staying in the same hotel on the return leg of the trip before heading back home. The guy at the hotel says it's a $40 cab ride, but I was thinking of MARTA because of the time/traffic since we need to get to other side of the city from the airport. I havent been to Atlanta for ~10yrs, but I can't imagine sitting in traffic from ATL to the other side of the city on a Friday.
edit: nevermind, I just looked at all of the luggage we already have packed and there is no way I am carrying all of this stuff onto MARTA and then down the street to the hotel. We will be getting a cab. Last edited by Shuie; 07-13-2011 at 05:42 PM.. |

a little late, but why are you staying at Lenox? there are plenty of nice hotels by the airport, and then you could ride Marta up to Lenox to do all the shopping and not have to lug your luggage around. all of the hotels by the airports have shuttles to the airport.
