Getting the silent treatment from the wife
I was looking for a new car after the last one suffered death by minivan. Looked at a TON of cars, all sporty little things. Narrowed it down to a few, including Porsche an Mazda vehicles.
"Oooh, you should get the Porsche, anything but the miata." Sort of like the miata. "Miata is a girl car, don't get a miata." This went on for a few weeks, with the disdainful "I can't believe you are still even thinking about getting a miata," each time the conversation came up. She would get sort of pissed when I explained my rationale. Got tired of her attitude about it, not going to be her car so screw it. I keep shopping, she is still violently opposed to the miata. Find a few cars, narrow it down to one in the Portland, OR area. My brother and I went to college up there and still know a fair number of folks in OR. Made plans to go up there with him to get the car, at that point had not spoken to her about cars for a few weeks. She is more than somewhat bent I am not taking her, but I did not have any interest in riding in a little car listening to her gripe about us not being in a Porsche for 10 hours. Had a great time with my brother and we both got to see some folks we have not seen in 20 years, went by the school, did not go to the Cueball in Salem(there was a mustang out front, but it was not a green one, sorry Paul). Overall, it was a stellar trip, and she will get over it. I don't feel I have been unreasonable, but thought a bit of feedback would be useful. What say you all? BTW, that Mazdaspeed Miata is a kick ass little rig, outstanding vehicle that will give me years of service, I have no doubt. Pics in the camera still. |

![]() A shame you missed the cue ball...shooting is Chris Byers, a local pool phenom. IIRC, he's 17 now. Recently placed 2nd in the masters division, BCA nationals in vegas. Love the look on his opponent's face: "I can't believe this KID is beating me." At 6'6", Chris doesn't need to use the rake (the bridge) often. The Miata? Brace yerself for gay jokes...but I believe a guy ought to buy & drive whatever he likes.

I expect that your wife's perspective is that a car is something you wear --where yours is; it's something to drive.
If you are at all a good looking guy, I expect she's worried that you'll get hit on a lot . ..by other guys, of course. ![]()

She did take a strong stance against the miata, did she explain why she felt so strongly?
As you said it is your car, i don't get it. Surely she can see that you are happy with the car. None of us like to be ignored. Its not good to let a freeze out last too long in a relationship tho, you better try to break the ice with her. Oh and its us pelicans that you should be worried about as far as buying a miata over a porsche:-) Good luck Bro Richard Last edited by tevake; 07-13-2011 at 09:46 AM.. |

I realize it's supposed to be 'your car'... please re-read chapter 1 of 'sex/love & marriage for dummies'.. so as you sit and ponder your soon to be lonely Johnson... just think & pray... he too will get over it.. she could quite possibly be concerned with the fact that IF YOU buy a miata, you will embark on a career change, become a zookeeper(msnbc), and be found dead, tied up bondage style with a sex toy in your mouth, and leave certain bears to fend for themselves, with no means of income.
its a thought? just saying! i mean crazier POO than this happens to miata owners!

She's probably thinking, why doesn't he go out and get a mani and pedi, buy a Prius, and then pick out curtains and hit the clubs, buying rounds of Zimas for his bichez guy friends?

Image seekers...they play a silly game. Pool is a better game, where status is determined by skill level.
I am one of low status...but knowing that saves me money.

I will agree with the wife, if it's a choice, really you have the choice, there is no way I would buy the Miata instead of a 911.

So you couldn't even get her to remotely understand your reasoning. Because of this you just blew her off.

You did see where he said he bought the Miata? He's not acting very rational right now, you'll just have to understand.

You should immediately sell the Miata. Then buy another car a few months later, then get divorced.
hey, go with what you know... |

Bummer when she's not happy.... But-
After she drives the Miata a bit she will probably "get it", as far as what wonderfully fun cars they are to drive. -Fun, -Cheap, -Reliable, -Economical, What's not to like? By the way, I have an early Miata. I also have a pink shirt my wife really likes. I will NEVER wear the pink shirt while driving the Miata! |
