My little herd of Ponys.......
keeps growing! Just got this piece. It is a Colt New Service made in 1916 for the British government. It was originally chambered for the .455 Eley round (standard British revolver issue) but has been re chambered and re proofed for the .45 Long Colt cartridge. The Long Colt is, of course, much easier to find in the States and is a much more potent round. The grips are not the original military ones. They shoud be plain walnut without checkering or emblems. Getting the grips put back correct should not be much of a problem. I think it looks pretty good for a 95 year old piece! Also, has British military unit markings on the butt by the lanyard loop. Should be interesting to determine to what unit it was issued.

Is the .455 Eley the same round that is used in most(?) Webleys?

.455 Eley........
Mossguy,
Yes, many of the Webley revolvers used this round. I don't remember exactly, but I think it was about a 255 grain bullet at around 750 fps. The British (at that time) seemed to think that a heavy bullet at a moderate velocity was the way to go. They also had a .38-200 round that used 200 grain .38 caliber bullet also leaving the barrel at a speed of 700 - 800 fps.

Snakes..........
Racerbvd,
"Are you interested in some Snakes"? Probably not, too new for my interests. I prefer the pre war leaf spring Colts and/or the target models (Officers Model Target, Shooting Master, etc.).

My friend just called yesterday and said he knows a guy who wants to sell a Colt 1903 Hammerless "cheap" and according to my friend, it's in "mint" condition. I wish I could afford it, but right now I can't...
