And that's what I'm doing. The driver asked me to give him a shot at paying cash first and balked as soon as I threw out just the bumper cover price. So Farmer's has a vm from me and I'll be dealing with them from now on.

Dang, that sucks. Let me know if you need any help with anything.

I'd get a few estimates

Elwood (Scottsdale)
Custom Auto Body (Cave Creek)
Scott's Coach Works (Phoenix)
Penske (Scottsdale)
Etc. Etc.

Don't be a pushover at all. I would request the repair (factory parts, shop of your choosing), plus a full inspection, 4-wheel alignement, etc.

Going the DIY route (just taking a bumper in to get sprayed) might be a bit dicey WRT paint matching. I wouldn't let a shop blend into the fenders/hood either, but they would likely need to custom-tint the paint to account for age/uv fade/etc.

Also, a lot of (most?) insurance co's will only cut checks for the full settlement amount to the shops themselves. If you want them to cut you a check directly, they give you a significantly reduced amount. YMMV.

My car was fully resprayed about six yrs. ago and is normally garaged. I spoke with Euro Pros today, the shop in MD that did the respray and he said to be sure they use Spies Hecker paint and it should match fine. My main concern here is getting the Euro bumper conversion for even money. I don't care about pocketing anything.

As far as I know, INS company doesn't have to get you stock OE part andmost likely won't, the best will be OEM. They will find the cheapest from any company advertised as OEM. Good luck.

Then I would definitely get an estimate from Scott's (Certified Spies Hecker shop). I don't think you will have any problem with getting the Euro bumper substituted either.

Quick hijack (sorry for the dinger, btw).

When I get the 356 back late this summer, I figure I'll need a year to figure out where to get it painted: Is Euro Pros the choice in MD?

Thanks.

Seahwak, Euro Pros has a LOT written about them here and on Dorkiphus. No one does it better, but they can take FOREVER. If you're in no hurry, tell them you are and then take it to them. Could be six mos. Go visit Jack, tell him you know me and my car. He has a love affair with my car, for some reason. Let him know you know how long it took him to do my car (six mos.) and ask why you should believe the 356 won't take the same. But he will make it look better than new.

Excellent.

I'll be in touch.

Good luck with your 993...quite a ride.

I think you may be dealing with the wrong company. I had this happen to me. I caused an almost $5K damage collision in a borrowed car. My ins. (USAA, very good company) would not have anything to do with it in Calif. My friend had some prior claims, so he didn't want to add to them. While I could have just laid it on my friend's company, I was morally obligated to pay up. And did. (Save the trumpet flourishes.)

Vracer, how does USAA liability not cover you in other cars?

Good question! That is not my understanding of USAA policy.

USAA covered me in a rental car I ran into someone on my honeymoon. Amex paid my deductible for the collision on the rental car.

Just filed the claim with Farmer's. The robot said an adjuster would be in touch within two business days, gave me a claim number and website portal for checking status. He said, if the truck owner's insurance is on the hook, they'll take care of it for me. Seems painless so far.

I'm surprised that Farmers is dealing with you directly. Usually, you would go to your insurance company who would then go to Farmers for the claim. That's what you pay your insurance company to do, no? Or are you doing this to avoid the deductible?

Why would I involve my insurance co. when the other guy and his are being cooperative?

b/c you no doubt have a contract provision that requires it

why not CYA and drop them a quick Email; mention the others are covering it and it is FYI

that's what I do

I did that about 15 yrs. ago when a cop witnessed a garbage truck backing into my parked SAAB while I was in the store. Arlington County took care of it, but it took a while. I called USAA and they said not to bother them with it unless Arlington Co. started getting difficult.

Consider yourself LUCKY!

Great day at the beach spoiled when I returned to the parking lot...no note...nada. Lots of broken connectors, bumber skin and fender, and various parts under hood. Headlight washer toast. I'm guessing $3500+. It's going through my insurance and wouldn't you know I just upped my deductible to $1K to "SAVE" money...LOL

There is a special place in hell for the POS that did that. I want to kill him, kill his family and kill his dog.

Just had my first conversation with the claims adjuster. She said there is a coverage issue because the guy was driving someone else's truck. At first she said it was a VIN discrepancy. What a co-incidence that the driver and his buddy both have champagne color '07 Chevy Silverados. I saw them both, so I know it's true. Adjuster said she has to research how it works in AZ and will let me know after she's spoken with the driver.
