where to trout fish in wyoming /montana???

gonna be heading up der in a few weeks. no rhyme no reason, no time schedule, no cares. armed to the teeth for bears, and armed to the teeth for TROUT!

blue ribbon catch and release is fine, or just hatchery raised. lake stream pond river. dont care! just wanna drink beer, catch trout, eat dehydrated food, all the orange food groups, slim jims, teriyaki beef jerky, sample lokal micro-brews, and generally be a tourist. get a no-tel motel here and there when we start feeling ripe.

have 4wd w/camper and winch. phx to new messiko and then up I-25 thru santa fe into denver then laramie. then start heading over to jelly stone to visit with "mr. ranger, yogi and boo-boo". then on into montana and then down thru utah back to az.

any must see gotta gotta hafta hafta must SEES? must DO'S?

inquiring minds wanna know??

i dream about TROUTS NIGHTLY!

I would reccomend the West Yellowstone area Near Hebgen Lake . More fishin with in 20 Miles than can be done in 5 Summers. The Rivers are just becoming fishable at this time. No Stocked fish here all natural!

Hebgen & Henry's Lakes

Park Rivers
Firehole
Yellowstone
Gibbon
Madison

Out of the Park Rivers
Madison
Gallatin
Henry's fork

Id suggest you start in the rivers, streams and lakes. That's the places you'd most likely catch trout.

No thanks nesessary, I'm here to help.

I agree.

I camped close to the summit of Togotee Pass on US 287 West of DuBois on the 8th and toured the area from Jackson to the North Entrance, and West Yellowstone over the next 10 days.
Every little stream was out of its banks.
The Snake, Wind and others were dangerously out of their normal courses.
I’m sure there is good fishing but there is a LOT of water and judging by the mid-July snowpack, there is more to come.

Belgium !

Note the brown water.
Every stream was above capacity.

The really good news was the lack of people.
Every campground was sparsely (<20%) populated or not full, even in the Park.
In both Jackson and West Yellowstone the ‘vacancy’ signs were out.
On our way to 6:00 PM dinner at the Old Faithful Inn, someone scored two vacant rooms as I walked past the registration desk.
We got a 4:00 PM ‘walk-in’ cabin at Canyon Lodge after having all our gear got rained on packing up that morning.
We had ‘no-wait’ at almost every restaurant on the entire trip.

The Yellowstone & Grand Teton Parks and the surrounding National Forests are absolutely wonderful.
Waking up to that scene (link above) is one of the more remarkable experiences in life.
(We returned to Denver from West Yellowstone via Idaho, Green River, WY, Flaming Gorge, UT and Dinosaur N.M.
Spectacular! The contrasts are remarkable.)

Best,
Grady

Grady I have to agree. The Teton's have immense beauty. I will go back to fish them again.

outstanding! now i am staring at TROUT PINUPS! and naked FLIES! exactly the info i was interested in. and to hear the parks are empty is a BONUS! yeeeeee-haw.

all i have to do is set the damn truck on cruise and get to laramie, and its off to the NW part of the state.

we are blessed that we have no timeline no restrictions. we are gonna sit on our fat azz'zz and FISH! FISH FISH FISH! and of course pray to the trout gawds every morning and evening.

cant wait. i am drooling big time over this trip.

my damn tackle box is a treasure trove of ser-i-azz trout weapons of warfare.

if ya ever get the chance and ya want blue ribbon trouts down here, check out the SAN JUAN RIVER east of farmington new messiko, and lees ferry arizona. incredible trouts there. 2 best times are when its hot as hell(now). its a case of beer per man per day, and in the very dead of winter, when its colder than you know what. skuds, pink shrimp flies, and lil salmon puff balls knock 'em dead every time along with bronze and copper Z-rays.

another trick on the san juan is to make yourself a crappie rig, with one big azz'd lead weight, those crappie rigs knock 'em sideways for a loop in the fast waters.

thanks for the pics will show wifey.
