If you don't think Kratch's mischaracterization of Rob's collection as hoarding is insulting, maybe you should begin to wonder just how clueless you really are.
Are you saying Rob's clueless too? Read his response to kach in post #17:

RKT - most impressive collection, can't imagine what it's worth!

That came in while I was typing. Rob's just being polite. Kratch's post was indeed insulting.

Get over yourself, DAR.

I'm not easily insulted!
In fact now that we have downsized to a smaller house there is NO room for the collection. It's all boxed and stacked in a "spare" bedroom.....so in a way it looks like a hoard!
I'd love to sell the entire collection complete to one person. I collected Porsche models for over 50 years to this result. No kids to leave it to, and if there were kids they would probably not appreciate them or the value. I've seen it at the LA Lit Meet.....Dad died and the daughter bought a table and put his collection of 50s and 60s tinplate models for sale......for 5 bucks each.....she had no clue.
I'll sell a few individual models here, but will probably try breaking it up into mini collections like all the 917s and then all the 356s, 993s, 908s etc. One of the rarest models is the Porsche Factory Fire Truck purchased at the factory goodie store in the early 70s.....No idea of what it's worth. Also from the early 70s is the Super Champion 1/43rd scale 917s. They produced 18 different 917s. I've got all 18 in mint condition. They were considered toys back then and they were given to the kids and they played with them....and wrecked them. So all 18 in mint condition is very rare.
I'll quit rambling now.

As a sidenote, I had the good fortune to view Rob's collection with my own eyes in 2008. I had never seen anything like this before and was in total awe. So were my two boys who were with me. I could have spent a complete afternoon simply studying and looking at this magnificent collection.
Really hope it will find a good home.
