1st Gen IPod Touch no sound or Apps store...help
Gang.
The wife found a used on on craigslist and I didn't think much if it, just handed the money over after checking wifi and touch function.... Now after restored and upgrade the firmware there is no audio. The think clicks audibly when typing, but the speaker doesn't play audio. Headphone jack works. When we try to get Apps via iTunes it shuts down iTunes. This was just a disposable Touch we got for our son (3.5 yrs old). He likes to play with our iPhone so we just got him one...now it's got issues. Hoping you guys can help fix, otherwise I'll be going after the seller for a refund. Help! Btw: I don't think it had audio/speaker before I wiped it and reinstalled firmware. |

Should be a moisture sensor in there. Should be white, if red it's been wet and you have recourse with seller.

Bummer, forgot, there's another one in the usb/charger jack.
If an Apple store is convenient you may want to stop in and ask their opinion. You say you get audible clicks when typing? Thru both external speakers and headphones? If yes to both that does not sound like a hardware issue. Have you tried resetting to factory default? Settings-->General-->Reset

I did the restore factory default via iTunes and it installed the latest firmware.
Would reset do anything different? Quote:

The first gen indeed only has a piezo type speaker for the clicks you hear. no other speaker. Still doesn't answer why itunes keeps quitting though...
