Cowboys & Aliens vs Captain America vs Smurfs
I'm going to the movies with my son today (he's 27). We had planned to go to see C&A. I usually don't listen to critics as much as real people, but I was curious so I did a little searching.
Apparently, Smurfs edged out C&A for the opening weekend. Not surprising as kids movies make money. According to rotten tomatoes, C&A is not really that good either according to the RT folks or the regular folks who logon and rate the movies themselves. Apparently, Smurfs is much worse, but then kids don't care that much. But, I did notice that Captain America is out, and seemed to be universally loved by the RT folks and the regular public. Anyone here have their own opinions?

C&A & CA are both fairly entertaining. I think CA was a little better, though.

cool. Good to hear. I don't try to imbue too much culture into my action movies. I want them to be entertaining. THat's not to say that an action flick can't be bad. I remember renting "Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever" with Lucy Liu and Antonio Banderas thinking, they're decent, this should be good. Wow, I'm not even sure if I finished watching. It was horrible. I've seen better movies made by and on the SyFy channel.

Hmmm. Maybe I can drag the wife out today, now that we're finished with our work.

My wife & I saw Captain America yesterday. I liked it because it was a comic book story and had plenty of action. I wasn't expecting much in the way of quality in any other respects, and it was what it was. My wife commented she didn't want to see any more comic book movies. Haven't seen Cowboys & Aliens.

We are supposed to see the Cowboys movie this afternoon, I was hoping to hear more about it. I, like others don't expect a lot from a movie like that, just some laughs.

Well, I'm headed out to see C&A, but I can't resist a Western, good or bad.
I saw CA with my father and my son last weekend and it was a fun flick. Airplane nuts will have to work hard to suspend their disbelief--a LOT--but otherwise I think it was a pretty decent comic book movie.

Pretty much sums up how I felt walking out of the movie. It will take something amazing to get me back in a theater & C&A doesn't look it.

We saw Capt America. It was very good. Probably most like the Fantastic Four movies, fun, action, not as dark or serious as some of the others. I liked it. I still want to see C&A.
Also, saw a new trailer for the next "Dark Knight" movie (next summer). It looked cool. Hmm, comic book movies Original Batman from the late 80s with score by Prince, great movie The batmen movies after that got gradually worse and worse. They were OK but Batman Forever and Batman and Robin were definitely the low point. Xmen, I've liked all 4, but 3 wasn't quite as good as the others. Fantastic Four, both were OK, but I think I like the first better. Jona Hex, was actually ok, not great, but worth a watch. Daredevil. I was a big Daredevil reader in the early 80s, and that's where the story came from. They did an OK job of recreating the story, but I just didn't much care for the movie. I thought they miscast Colin Farrell as "Bullseye", and I didn't much care for Ben Afleck as DD. Electra. OK, this one was way out there, but I thought it was OK. I actually enjoyed watching it more than DD. The newest Batman movies, excellent, I've liked them all. For me the best Superman was the 1st with Reeve. I didn't see the one with the gay guy as superman. I didn't see Green Lantern, but I heard that it wasn't good. I really liked Sin City. I also didn't see Thor. I'm eager to see the Avengers. I hope it's good.

Very few people have seen this one. It's a bit gory, but not over the top: Cowboys & Smurfs
This trailer needs to be expanded to full screen because parts of it are fairly dark and can't be seen well at all otherwise.

I saw Cobowys and space monsters this afternoon, my kind of movie, nothing to put a lot of thought into, not like time travel, just something for a few laughs on a Sunday afternoon. Bare breasts would have been good, but just a back shot, the cast got the good scene.

C&A was fun. The "texture" of the film was really good but Olivia Wilde's performance wasn't too convincing.

Caught Captain America today.
Was not really into it but with 105 outside needed an indoor activity for the kids. Enjoyed it far more than I expected I would. Was well done.

Regarding C&A VS CA VS Smurfs, I expect that I liked CA better but enjoyed C&A more. Kind of gory if you have sensitive kids, More so than CA.
There will be no Smurfs in my future... |
