Hotel in Vegas
My wife and I are planning on going to Vegas this winter, it's her birthday present. We havn't been for a few years and I'd like to book a nice hotel. We have stayed at the Bellagio in the past, but was wondering about some of the newer hotels. How do Aria, Palazzo, and Vdara stack up? Any other's to consider? We are not big gambler's, she likes to go to the show's mainly.
We are going around Christmas or New Years, if it makes a difference.

The Station Casinos has the Red Rock Resort..which is OFF THE STRIP...I keep telling people about this place...IT IS NICE.. I would say as nice as the Wynn...and on Friday night the place HOPS...it also has one of the best poker rooms in LV.
Also you don't get all the hustle and bustle Tourist BS of the Strip..yet it close enough to go down there and do what ya want. PLUS IT IS CHEAPER. YA like paying $2.50 for a bottle of water, by all means avail yourself to the Strip... Traditionaly from Thanksgiving Day to Christmas this town is DEAD, DEAD, DEAD..Come December 26th and this town starts to HOP for the 1st... My idea of having a good time does not include being part of a herd of tourist cattle...and that is exactly what you are when you are on the LV Strip...or maybe a better analogy would be flock of tourist sheep to be sheared of their MONEY...

Can't speak about the hotels, but Tabs and I had the lunch Buffet at the Billagio, and it is worth the extra you pay, hands down. Also, he and I ate at Jerry's Nugget, on Las Vegas Blvd (the Strip) a few miles north of the old downtown strip. The prime rib is excellent and 1/3 the price of the crap they sell on the Strip that they call Prime Rib.

I got food poisoning at Red Rock in January. It was probably a fluke, but it was so bad that I'd feel queezy just walking into that place again. However, my company got the place for something like $25 per night per room. Very nice place.

After 35 years of going to Vegas we find the best bang for the buck is the Mirage.
It has great suites, great pool & spa, great restaurants and is nicely located. Walking distance to many other casinos, the mall and Cesar's Forum which has shopping and excellent restaurants. They are offering some very nice deals if booked early. Enjoy

I stayed at the Venetian last trip. Always nice if you are on a couples trip.
Ceaser's is just too overpriced these days. Its was $100 more a night over the V. If you want to go cheaper the Palm has some really low rates lately. $80ish? |

Love Mirage myself for poker, etc but have never stayed there. The whole vibe of that place is just right for me. Steak house isn't what it used to be tho.
Did the Bellagio buffet on Tabs advice as well and was impressed. Would def. eat there again.

I'm going there on Sat. to see Rush. But we're staying at the Ramada, as my wife gets a smoking deal there from her company.

Venetian, but don't let them talk you into the "upgrade". Also make sure you are NOT on a party floor.
I'll try TABS suggestion next time I'm in town.

Why do buffets? There are two or three AWESOME dim sum places off the Strip. I can't wait to hit Harbor Place on Sunday. Best diner is The Egg & I on W. Sahara.

That's Orchids Garden and it is excellent. Only thing missing is the clouds of cigarette smoke. Otherwise, it's like China. The other good one is Harbor Place on Spring Mtn. Rd. There's a super Sichuan place further up the road, but we won't be there for dinner this time, just coming for the concert.

I stayed at Aria and Vdara. Nice rooms, quieter because they are slightly pushed back from the strip and don't appeal to the bachelor-party-type crowd. Vdara has a tram stop and is also connected to the Belagio. The two hotels were mismanaged at the time but hopefully things have changed.

I'll be at the Venetian this weekend, but it's for a bachelor party so I probably won't have time to visit with any Pelicans

+1 to Tabs, sort of.
I played at the Red Rock last weekend, and it was pretty NUTSO. VERY Nice rooms, nice pool. A LONG LONG way from the strip. Which, as mentioned, is good or bad depending on what you want. I went to the buffet and the line was 40 minutes, which got me to breakfast 15 minutes before breakfast was over. Not too great, but my fault. I did to go the "CABO" restaurant, which was better than expected. As for the strip, I only know Luxor and Mandalay, and if I was spending my own money, I wouldn't go to either.

I have to go to a trade show at the LV convention center in September for work. Our secretary is supposed to book rooms. She will no doubt be instructed to avoid top dollar hotels. Is the Las Vegas Hilton OK? It looks like it is walking distance to the convention center which would be nice as we will not have a car. My wife is going along and it would be nice if she could walk back and forth to the hotel when/if she gets bored.

Tim you can do Flamingo for silly cheap and wil be right across from Bellagio, Caesers, etc. Also suggest renting a car so you can hit the dam, etc. There is a racetrack not far from the strip as well, never know what's going on there.
Tabs one of my fav's on that buffet was the quail. Split and grilled....mmmm! Liked poker at Mirage because it was roomy and not stuffed with douchebags pretending like they're big time tv players. Good temp and quick service as well. Bel. was crowded, hot and just blech.
