Spotted in parking lot

Saw this parked at Fred Meyer. Back plate said 1957, is it a real one? a Pelican?

Sorry cell phone pic

Lots of fun for not a lot of money. I really like these little cars. I still want to build one on a full tubeframe with the Mendeola A-arm front suspension and coilovers

I've always liked these replicas. I once saw a cream coloured one with a burgundy leather interior at a car show.
It looked fantastic in real life... Somehow photography can't capture the beauty of this car.

Of all of the replicas available this one is probably the easiest to build to an acceptable standard.
The simplicity of the original Speedster helps in a big way.

I loved restoring and driving this car. I still regret selling it

Skinny tires, not a lot of power and bad brakes but it sure was fun

Why did you ever sell this car?

When I'm retired I'm planing to restore one just like it. (If I can find one)

There is a mfg in Tenn. that builds them from the ground up. Makes a tubular frame and installs a Suby motor mid engine. Never seen one in person but they look great. He makes Speedster, Cabriolet and coupe...start at about $27K.

Why could you not drive a real one all the time? Everyone I know with a 356, including Speedsters, drives them whenever they want. The limiting factor is that there are a lot of times when you feel like driving something with A/C and a good stereo, etc.

You only go around once in this life. Don't waste your turn.
