California Energy Upgrade Rebates-This Looks Promising
http://www.energyupgradeca.org
This may be good in other counties as well. But LA County/Edison/The Gas Co. is giving up to $6,000 in energy upgrade rebates for insulation, and other stuff. A colleague of mine (some I pretty much trust) is a certified contractor for this program. NO income limits to qualify. I've been wanting to better insulate my attic, and this may be the ticket. If I get 40% projected energy savings (I'm reasonably sure this is achievable I''d get $6,000 in rebates, 20% reduction I get $4,000. I'm pretty sure 20% is low hanging fruit for my crap built house.

Ooh. Will have to look into that. We've been meaning to change out our attic insulation and put in new windows, anyway. Let me know if you find out more.

Make sure you tell the taxpayers thank you for paying your bill.
I know, you already pay more than most. Maybe we should both gobble up some of these rebates, just to get a little of our own money back. But what about the children? Won't anyone think of the children? |

They are mapping the house today, and are pressure testing as we speak. Sealed off all the vents, and bathroom and kitchen fans. Next they will be testing the combustion efficiency of the central heat system.

We had an energy audit as part of the stimulus package. They pressure tested of our house last winter. Apparently one of our chimney flues was wide open. They added some insulation to pipes and behind outlets and added several inches or insulation in the attic, all for $200.
We just got our last electric bill. Despite 30 straight days of 100 degree weather, it was only $230. I was excited. I expected $300+.

My house is only 3 years old. was built "green", radiant barrier yada yada.
In my great room, East exposure, I have 6 large windows, 3 lower and 3 upper, each one the size of a door. The ceiling is 25-30 ft and the second floor balcony is open to that room so all the heat was bum rushing the second floor and we noticed our 2 year old leather couch had faded pretty bad so we had solar shades installed. $480 total. My utility bill is lower than previous years averages. Even with the 30+ straight days of 100+ temps we've had I broke even. Worth every penny so far.

Test the vents for leaks by pressurizing the HVAC intake and taping off the vents.
