Finally Got Moved, Oh the Creepy Crawlies...
So, finally got moved and we are about 70% unpacked and organized. In the middle of all this I am killing yellow jacket nests, red wasp nests and fending off honey bees from my mountain Dew while reloading my .410 for the next round of black bumble bees. I take a sip of my drink and notice (and I kid you not) what appears to be a black wasp (I guess that is what it is) about 3 1/2" inches long (hope I don't get tagged by that). Did I mention the other night that me and the wife were sitting in my new shop as a light rain came in for about five minutes? What ensued was something directly out of "Kingdom of the Spiders" Tarantulas, everywhere! out in the yard (dogs were messing with them) crawling into the shop there were a hundred of them if there were ten. Some kind of ants are taking all of my berries off my trees and carrying them across the street. There are bugs here I have never seen before.... Pictures to follow when I get my camera unpacked and located...

Are you in Texas now or did you move somewhere else?
Could be cicada killer or mud dauber. Cicada killers are big n fat, mud dauber looks more like a traditional wasp. Neither are very aggressive. Mud daubers will prey on Black Widows so there is a benefit.

We made a trip a couple of years ago between San Antonio and Del Rio to see the SIL graduate flight school, never heard a bug "thump" a car before at 70mph. BIG da*m bugs!
Watch the ants,.....and watch your berries! Karl 88 Targa |

I moved from the Lower Rio Grand Valley (Harlingen Area) to Lake Mathis / Lake Corpus Christi. Really nice place, older home... Large screened in porch in rear of house, about a 40 x 50 shop, little less than an acre of land with mature trees. If I liked to eat squirrel, my freezer would be full. Got a skunk that lives in the brush line about 30 feet behind the house, he has managed to spray at least one of the dogs each night. On a lighter note, caught me a small 3ft alligator gar last night and saw about a 5ft water moccasin while me a my daughter were out fishing day before yesterday. Also have a pack of Javelina that come through every other day or so. Quite a few road runners, ducks and dove. Haven't seen any quail or turkey yet, but I am sure that they are out there...

A little bit of both lol, My wife has been asking me "Where the hell have you moved us to???" At the same time she says that she loves it here and is very happy. The kids have been swimming almost everyday at the lake. My sister lives on the opposite side of the lake and has taken the girls out to pick wild grapes and prickly pear to make homemade jam/jelly. We are in the middle of making a large batch of pickled water melon rind (If you have never had or heard of this, you will never throw your water melon rinds out again after trying it) & wine (I ordered a brewers yeast that should allow up to a alcohol content of 20%). Life is good, just trying to get the unpacking and organizing done so life can get back to normal. I am getting ready to treat the yard and perimeter of the house with poison to try and control the critters. As soon as I get the camera out & going I will post pics of the area.
Thanks Rika04!!! I will try that recipe out for the dogs!!!

older home = many bugs & varmints
I used to seal up an old house; then toss in bug bombs like grenades and then leave on a vacation for a month or two when I got back, I'd hire some cheap labor to clean it all out real well pressure washing the inside of an old house can also be effective -- esp. if you use bleach |
