Thrift store score

Got sort of a Disney animated selection, Snow White, Dumbo, Pete's Dragon, Beauty and the Beast and a non-animated one, Wizard of Oz for the grandkid.

For me, new in box, unopened, Frank Capra's, Why We Fight, seven hour long programs made from '42 to '45.

Dollar per tape, ten bucks

Just got done watching Snow White with my grandson, what an incredible masterpiece that is.

All this time I thought that I was the only Porsche owner to frequent thrift stores. I scored a flawless set of very old Ray Ban Clubmasters for ten bucks once.

You fellas are not alone in your thrift store visits.

We make a day of it some weekends. We have several large Salvation Army stores within an hourof us.

You have to look carefully but you can find some great deals on items that don't need to be brand new.

Like a used car, the depreciation has already occurred.

My wife loves thrift stores. I dropped her off once at Salvation Army and was waiting in the car. So I decided to go in and in the glass case was an HP calculator. I asked to see it. Ended up buying it for $3! It's an HP 32S II. Sells for about $150 used on eBay.

Wow! I had an HP32S II when I was getting my Masters in Electrical Engineering. Never got used to RPN so it sat in the box. Found out a few years ago that it's a favorite of those taking the EIT so I put it on Craiglsits and sold it within an hour for $200.

All the Chem E's/Process engineers use the 32S II. I like the RPN, but you're sometimes wondering if you stacked everything in the right order.

I buy my cloths at a Thrift Store....just love wearing a dead mans shoes...

Anyway the Thrift store I go to buys returns and out of season items from Target Since I am Big I need to wear over sized stuff..So when I found Shorts for $5 a pair I bought a bunch..buying a similar pair on-line would cost at least $18 a pair.

At the end of last summer I bought a Sun Tea Jar for $1....this summer I have been making a gallon every 1 1/2 days...

I used to frequent a Thrift Store in Monrovia, CA that had some really, really good stuff. I bought a small 17 Th century Delft Vase for $100.

But some of my best stuff came out of a consignment shop on El Toro Rd in Lake Forest, CA

I have a piece of art pottery that is unsigned but has all the hallmarks of being by a major AC Ceramicist by the name of Adelaid Alsop Robineau. Also a AC wood floor lamp. the Lamp guy I took it to in Covina, CA to be rewired and shaded said. "As it stands it is worth $2000, if you could find out who made it $20000." and that was over 10 years ago.

Lst night I was watchin Storage Wars..seem that they have gotten a bit more real about how hard it is to make really good scores...my feelings are why not just go to Estate and weekly auctions..In early June I went to pickup some BBQ Charcoal at a Firewood place here in LV. It being Friday and being out there anyway, I decided to stop in and seee what the Public Auction place had for its weekly Saturday sale...I saw 2 identical Cowboy made of wood Shooting Carts (350-400 each) . I went back picked them both up for $178 out the door. Went out to the Clark County Shooting Range posted 3 pictures with description on their various Buellitin Boards. Two weeks later get a call and sell one for $250. If and when I sell the other one for the same money I will have made a return of 181% on my money...

Look, I didn't get the money for the Porsche by paying retail.....

My wife and I are both bargain hunters.

As if that'd be a deal killer ...............

Their shop is a few miles from here, drive by it all the time. I've thought about stopping in but don't wanna be lame like the TV tourists who just wanna see a celebrity cause they don't have a life.
