Ha! As a biker, I'm good to go!

Might make it past 70! (I'm 67 now)

I 'ride the rollers' every day during the off-season for biking.
My bike has put on almost as many miles on inside as it did outside when the weather was good.
If I miss a day...I can feel it the next.
The rollers are the best...perfect for northern climes.

If I sprinted for 4 minutes I'd die on the bike.

edit: I take that back I'd be dead after 2 minutes.

I have a recumbent exercise bike on the way. I'm selling my Trek, keeping my Bike E, and using the stationary bike in bad weather. My back won't let me bend over the handlebars anymore.

I use my upright 8 speed bike on the rollers. It's so much more comfortable than using the 24 speed road bike. I can do twice the miles and my back still feels fine.

There is no reason to be aerodynamic on rollers indoors...go for comfort.

What gearing do you have on a 24 speed? 3x8 or 2x12?

^^^ 3X8

The 8 speed I use is a belt driven bike. The bars are urban/cruiser style...almost straight.

Had an eye-opening conversation with a heart surgeon several years ago. This was 15 minutes after he completed surgery on my brother and riding partner. I told him that we rode 20-40 miles per ride several days per week and generally averaged about 20MPH with short sprints thrown in for good measure. He looked at me seriously and said, 'why do you ride so fast? You're not 35 anymore (we were both 55-56 at the time). Don't try to pretend you are.' That tends to sink in when you've been sitting in a hospital for hours waiting to hear if your brother survived his heart attack or not. I still ride, but at a slower pace. I've taken his 'everything in moderation' advice. Your mileage may vary

July, 2017 was the last time I moved furniture/household stuff. I SWORE I would never do it or help do it again. I was 60.

Tracy calls me Monday night, Dec 3rd, 2018 asking me to help him move. I said I am not doing that anymore. He did it himself and died through the night.

Even with all of my health issues, I still push myself on my mountain bike, kayak, and hiking whenever I can. Most folks are sitting on the couch, drinking beer while i'm out there processing firewood.

Laziness is my greatest pet peeve !

Curt

I think that's great advice.
Having said that, I'm still intrigued by the thought of twice-a-week 4x4 repeats. There's a couple of hills close to me that would be perfect - a few miles there to warm up, 4 hard minutes up, coast down the back side-do that x 4, and ride back home. An hour well spent.

Do you and your brother still get to ride together?

Just rambling here on a rainy Sunday:

One of the hardest things lately is finding a riding buddy. I'm 61 and pretty fit, so I can ride with people quite a bit younger (to a point) but sometimes I wonder if that's a recipe for disaster. (Your brother being the cautionary tale). When I find a group of guys my age, it's usually not enough of a workout; slow pace, frequent stops. Riding with fit women a few years younger than I am is fun, but circumstances have kept that from happening as much as I would like.

(Maybe I need a new bike, ha ha! There's a Moots gravel bike I have my eye on, I keep thinking that could be my main steed, use it for everything! Sell off most of the other remuda.)

Bob Kontak - I am so sorry Buddy! That's a tough one, and I wouldn't wish that on anyone!)

My two year gym membership is about to expire. As much as I want to support the owners, I just cannot wear a mask when doing cardio and so I've not been doing it since the last shutdown and then reopening with mask requirement several months ago. I'm probably going to buy a ProForm elliptical or something and just work out at home now. I've been doing all the other exercises at home already. I just can't stand wearing a mask at the gym.

My grandmother turned 95 yesterday. I had no idea she was a cyclist or did a whole lot of 4 min bursts of intense exercise.

No problem...I think it's rare, around here anyway. I can show it to most people and they don't even notice that it's belt-driven.
The stand-ahead Garmin on the front is my new Varia Radar unit. I had it down on the bars earlier....but it's much easier to see the cars on it when it's mounted higher.
Even with the tone that it emits when cars are coming from behind, wind noise can cover up the sound. It'll show up to three cars approaching from the rear. If there are more they keep getting replaced as they pass.
The bike is in 5th gear in the pic.
