Centurion Card
Figure there must be at least one other card holder here, so I will ask. I did a little less travel than normal last year and Amex is closing my centurion account. I told that my spending will be at the correct or better level this year, however that don't seem to care. I'm kinda miffed at them not extending me a grace period. Anyone else had any dealing with this?

I was offered one a couple of years ago but turned it down. WAY too expensive per year for a credit card and besides I hardly use the services of my Platinum. Nice invitation package though!

Yea, the leather binder and such. I use it as a mental crutch when I travel, it got me out of a bind once and I just like knowing I have it. I still have my gold, which I suppose is going to have to do.

So what are they going to do make you give the card back so they can melt it down? Or perhaps they will let you keep it as a lovely titanium coaster!

Trade it in on a Black AmEx card. Those work wonders everywhere...

They closed the account, the card is worthless so they said to cut it up.

I have a question...I took at biz platinum card a couple of years ago when I started my company. We are now spending well north of $100K per month sometimes closer to $250K per month on the card.
I have never been offered a black card, is it b/c it is a business platinum am ex and not technically my personal am ex (even though they required my social security number in addition to the business tax ID when I opened it...)

This probably falls in the 'if you have to ask you can't afford it' category, but why would anyone pay $2500 a year to have a credit card? I don't get it...

OK, I'll take a stab at the answer. I was in China on business and hit another car, had it not been for Amex and this card I fear things may have turned out worse than they did. I need an attorney that spoke English, they found one, and I never paid a penny. I have a few other "incidents" like this.

That's reassuring actually, thanks. I'm just going to quit yelling at them and take the gold card back, thanks for your post.

If you use Ameriprise Financial and have an account over a certain amount they give you a complimentary Platinum Card or cover the $400 a year basic fee as part of their service.
It's a nice little perk and you can use the $400 for another set of tires. At least that's how I justify it Steve

A story about this centurion card caught my attention..never heard of it...but i know now what it is. What is it like to be in that elite crowd to be able to spend and pretty much get what you want? Just a curious question as I find it kind of interesting as I'm not at all wealthy and part of the lower class by monetary standards. |
