Advise on What Bourbon & CA Red to Bring Evren in Istanbul?
I'm going to Istanbul in about 10 days. I'll be meeting up with Evren who bought Paul's (PWD72S) 911S. He apparently likes bourbon and I promised Paul and Ian (Imcarthur) I'd bring a California Red wine. I'm thinking Woodford Reserve on the Bourbon, but don't know CA Red wines. Any suggestions on either?

Are you buying one bottle of wine or a few? If you are buying one, go big, Opus One.
There are so many really great vineyards. If it is me, I would rather have a few bottles of less pricey wine. For reds, Silverado, Silver Oak, Jordan, Kenwood, Markham, Duckhorn, Cakebread, Clos du Val, Murphy Goode, Mondavi, Alexander Valley. You could put together a nice little mixed six pack for not too much dough.

I like Boorman Vineyards Cab Franc Boorman Vinyards Wines
The Bev-Mo by me has it on the shelf and it is very good in my humble opinion. Dave |

I'm a semi-large Maker's Mark honk, so that's my .02. And do you think he would like Jack Daniel's? I've come back to that lately, it's very good. Woodford is good, too.

IIRC, LAX's duty free shops are actually good and have real bargains. I'd always bring Maker's Mark for bourbon. It's my favorite and it's in a cool bottle. My fav. CA wines are those than you can only buy at the wineries - V. Sattui, Viansa, etc.

Pappy VanWinkle...that would be a serious treat. Not much of it left though.
Wine...too many to list. My go-to $30 btl would be a Heitz cab, always delivers. If you brought me these i would hug you.

I prefer Joseph Phelps Backus over Opus One. And on that line, I'd buy 5 bottle of J.P. Cabernet instead. For whites, it is tough to beat Cakebread Chardonnay.

Why not send him a bottle from a little closer to home? Sanford, Rancho Sisquoc, Foxen, Eberle, etc. are all good wines.

Jos Phelps is pretty good, like I say, tough to pick.
I do prefer Cakebread's Chardonnay to any of their reds

I like Woodward, Kenwood or Kendal Jackson are hard to beat for red.
But then I'm low budget.

Doesn't one of our moderators own a winery in CA? That would be a nice touch with Porsche and Pelican ties.

If it's bourbon you giving, there's not much better than Pappy Van Winkle's Family Reserve. Old Rip Van Winkle . You can pick it up at the K&L wine store in Hollywood!
Have fun in Istanbul, it's really a terrific city! -Michael
