AFC R-gruppe style miata mods
AFC, I've seen your thread on "clubroadster" about building an R-gruppe style miata.
R-gruppe style MX-5 - ClubRoadster.net I like where you're going with it. I tried to register over there, but I'm still waiting for the mods to activate my registration, almost a week later. Here's a mod that you need. It's a center console delete where you end up with just carpet aft of the shifter. I think you could probably stop the console before the shifter too if you were so inclined. Originally, when "Gene-m" built this, he didn't have the console or armrest portion at the back. He just had a small f/g bump for the trunk and fuel lid release levers. I guess at some point he decided he missed the arm rest and place to stick stuff so he added that back, but you can see the custom forward portion of the console that he added. ![]() Here's a view so you can imagine it without the armrest. ![]() Just some other random photos that I've found. This guy also has "R" style door panels. ![]() This unfortunately, is sort of a fake. It looks like a giant piece that goes over the center tunnel that has carpet, but I do like the look if you could accomplish it by taking stuff off rather than adding stuff. ![]() another view. I like the retro-theme this guy has Inside the Blue Potato ![]() This looks like the real thing from NA with NO center console - MX-5 Miata Forum ![]() click for pics My Retro Console Here you can see a bunch of interesting stuff on Gene-M's car http://www.cardomain.com/ride/185771/1994-mazda-miata-mx-5 I'm kind of digging these tail lights too ![]() or these ![]() Miata Parts tail lights by drv2fst

I dig the black and tan interior. I have the red interior with the stock center console and the ''ahem'' cup holder, cough, cough.
The top set of tail lights look good. ![]() Not my car, but this is what I consider a bad a$$ Miata. |

My previous miata was a black '97. I wish it had had the tan leather interior. When the plastic rear window cracked, I had a tan top with a glass rear window put on.
I really like the panasport style wheels on them, and the bolt/rivet on flares. As far as stock goes, this is one of my all time fav miata. ![]() There are lots of really sharp modified miata out there. I tend to actually prefer the NA body to the later body style, but I like my MSM too.

In the 60's, if you wanted a ugly, chromed, non-functional accessory for you car, you went to the J C Whitney.
Think of an entire catalog made up of items like this: |

The wood steering wheel is the best thing there. I sort of like the bigger cupholder, it has a little slot that is the perfect fit for my cell phone. I rest my elbow right on that console and snickity snick. 1-2. bang bang, then skip to 5 because I am already going too fast. The door panels are not bad at all, would look sweet in black leather with the chrome accents.
What I really need is a cargo net for the trunk. I want a tonneau cover, badly. If I got one of those, my top would be down 300 days a year. I discovered that the radiator is just as cheesy as the one in my honda was, but it was easier to change the coolant; guess that means they want me to change it often.

Hahaha! I figured it was only a matter of time until Pelicans discovered that thread!
Thanks for the compliments. As far as the center console, I may just delete the entire thing all together...I haven't decided yet. I know a local guy who works with plastics. The only other part I REALLY want is the fastback top Warhorse Performance is making. Warhorse Performance Miata Fastback Hatchback I want that sloping rear end. BTW, I disagree about the rivet on flares on a Mazda...It just falls far short of what I imagine on a 993 or a 240Z...And those are the two cars that I LOVE with flares. I do like the look of the fastback miata, but I wouldn't got one of their tops.
I like the center console delete, but I use it too much to get rid of it. It's kind of funny. I posted this thread and about an hour later, I got the admin approval from clubroadster.

I don't think we're talking about fake crappy non-functional stuff here though. That was my confusion. Actually, the main point of this thread is removing the center console, not adding one.

^ Any particular reason why you wouldn't get one of those tops? I'm just curious.
I've seen the Autokonexion in person and I wouldn't get one of those, but from everything I've read, this is much better developed. |

Sorry, the Autokonexion is what I was thinking of. This Warhorse is MUCH better.

AFC, this may be another option that you might want to consider. I got a plain white round knob with my shift pattern in black for my old '97 miata. It's in my wife's car now. Not only is it retro and cool, but it's cool after it's been sitting in the sun a while too.
