And they were correct.

In fact the "new boss" is worse. We have far more oppressive government and higher taxes than the colonials ever had.

A valid concern especially since a goodly chunk of the population is now armed. Here is the rebel's official website: The Libyan Interim National Council Reading through the provided bios reveals a hodgepodge of interesting people. But this doesn't really tell us anything about who will actually seize control. The Qatar connection might influence things to some extent. Libya is far more of a mystery than Egypt.

And then there is Syria. More of the same except Nato is not making the same noises this time.

Those politicos who covered their arses most successfully (with hard currency) will assume positions of power in the new regime. The rebels will be paid off with new toys. For a while complete chaos will reign. And then someone so thoroughly corrupt and ruthless that he can keep all the other contenders in line and also secure a steady flow of Libyan oil to Europe will emerge to take the helm. Then NATO will pat itself on the back, and say it was worth it.

Something like that....

This seems to be a likely scenario...time will surely tell. I've also wondered about these "rebels". Exactly how were they organized and trained? Who purchased weapons for them? Who's feeding them? How are they able to continually embarrass a more organized, better-funded Libyan Army? I realize that the Libyan Army probably isn't a crack, well-oiled fighting force but at the very least they have a chain of command, access to more advanced weapons and some minimal level of proficiency.

While I am delighted by Q-Daffy's apparent departure - hopefully he has gone to a much warmer place, there are not yet the signs of stable leadership or democracy. While I want to believe that the source of the rebel uprising throughout the Arab spring is their increasingly youthful demographic coupled with education either through formal or informal means (e.g the Internet) who see the benefits of the Western styles of tolerance and democratic governments, I fear that they are very susceptible to more dictators in whatever form.

To me, the jury is out until there is a peaceful change of government via fair democratic voting. Which is years away.

Which is what George Bush said.

I think history may prove him prescient.

Because NATO has been bombing the crap out of them for months.

Nato focused on Tripoli on the weekend to soften them up. As well, reports of an ambitious amphibian assault timed with the attacks on the burbs all point to (at least) adequate central military leadership despite the TV images of hooligans in trucks.
