Libya - interesting tidbit
Chatted with my stock broker this morning. His biggest client was an upper echelon exec. with one of the oil companies and lived in a luxo Mediterranean villa in Libya until he and his wife tried to return after a vacation in Germany and Gadaffy wouldn't let him back into the country (but his wife could return (?)). This was back during the oil spill in the Gulf, when accusations against BP, et all, re the Lockerbie bomber being released being connected to securing oil contracts with Libya were being made.
The client's employer had no place to put him, gave him a generous golden parachute and now he's living in Central, or South America, raking in bundles working as a consultant for IHS. I''d jokingly asked my broker if he thinks his client's old villa is still standing. Coincidentally, he'd spoken with him not long before I called and he said his client thinks that one of his acquaintances may very well end up being the person who heads up what happens in Libya after Gadaffy is gone. He's a Libyan and lives in SOCAL in Rancho Santa Fe. My broker lives in La Costa and I live in another part of Carlsbad. Rho SF is nearby, so this guy's our neighbor. Ha ha! Nothing in common though; that community is one of the wealthiest enclaves in the country, chock full of gazillionaires living in palatial villas on huge country estates. My broker has no idea who this person is or how he got his money. His client was heading off the golf course and their conversation was brief.
