life is short
Just got email from the director of the nursing home band. One of the members died in an accident on the 14th of Aug. 39 years old, leaving behind a wife and two kids. Being a musician who recently started a "regular" job at a guitar manufacturer he had limited family benefits. He did a lot of studio work on the Guitar Hero franchise and played with various band including the "Reinventing Bonoduce" reality show. I shared the stage with him at the VA Hospital gig on the 8th of Aug, and here is a pic of us playing a nursing home in Highland Park on 23Jul. Crazy life.

One of my biggest regrets so far is that I feel that I am not mentally able to live my life to the fullest. My mind is typically more preoccupied with real and imaginary reasons for stress and sorrow than joy and happiness. Sad.

Markus, the fact that you recognize the issue indicates to me that you are already taking steps to address this.
BTW, I don't know anyone that does not have a similar concern

I think you are right. On both counts. 'Don´t worry - be happy' is an eluding concept.

Very sorry to hear.
Value every day. Sooner or later we'll all have one that will be our last. Even your worst day above ground will be better than your best day below.

Sorry for your loss. Nice background that you gave on the fella. So sad to hear he leaves children and a wife. I have done hospice nursing before and let me tell you, ironically, it was the best job I ever had. It reminded me EVERY DAY that life is too short and to take advantage of every minute. People told me a lot of their regrets when I held their hands as they took their last breaths. Don't ever live in regret!
People sometimes call me crazy now... sometimes doing the things that I do. But there has to be a balance. Prepare for the future but have fun in the present. And most importantly, don't waste your time on people who don't enrich your life. We all have better things to do! Hugs to you! |

True words indeed. Wish I had lived by that more earlier on.

I think god sends us messages every once in awhile - see here - this is why you should live your life fully everyday. I was having a pretty crummy day today - until I read this thread...
mine is better than many - I get to come home and hug my kids and kiss my wife.

Todd. True words. Every year, we play at a local function. Last year, as we were setting up, I got word that one of our band members had finally succumbed to cancer. There was nothing to do but play for Dave. I gave the audience some background on a couple of songs we had written together. It was kind of rough. I sang at the funeral and his widow gave me one of his favorite T shirts. One year after his passing, I finally had the balls to wear it in his honor. Damn. ![]() Hold your Loved Ones close. Les

First of all, playing where you often do, with the Nursing Home Band, makes me smile and admire you and your colleagues...great band name, BTW, even in jest. As you no doubt know, at every formal gathering of military folks, Dining In's and Dining Out's, we always pause and toast those who are no longer with us, but remain in our hearts, our thoughts, our sinew. To your friend, I offer my toast.
