Cordless phone batteries

I have a Panasonic cordless and it currently has Panasonic batteries that are Ni-MH 1.2V 550mH. The charge doesn't last very long although the battery indicator shows full charge. Sometimes we get cut off mid call because the battery goes down. Can I go with any 1.2V Ni-MH rechargeable of a higher mH (like 700 or 900 mH) or do I need to stay with what Panasonic recommends. Will that give me more battery life.

Of course the phone says "use only Panasonic batteries" and recommends what is already in the phone. I would expect this is only because they want the repeat business and jack the price up as well.

Any recommendations on how to extend the talk time and not destroy the phone? Thanks

How old are the phones/batteries? These batteries tend to have a short lifespan- in the range of 2yrs or less. If the phones worked fine when they were new, just get new batteries. They do not have to say panasonic on the side. Once in a while I find it cheaper to buy new phones- on sale- than new batteries. Strange world.

I had pretty good luck buying replacements online. The battery in our phone is ancient - easily 10 years old or more. But the cordless is really only a bluetooth extension to our mobile (we have no land line number) and it isn't used a lot.

Fry's has a big battery section/selection. Also, go to Amazon and Batteries Plus with the model number of the battery.

In the past, the specialty replacement battery for a single line phone costs as much as a new phone. I recently replace a bunch of cordless phones with a set of 4 phone from Panasonic because they use rechargeable AA batteries so any quality rechargeable AA will work.

I think i'm going with some Ni-MH that are 750mH and see if that extends the time the phone can be out of the cradle. They are pretty inexpensive on the internet.

The charging circuit is likely not designed for a higher current rated battery - so there may not be any advantage in paying more than for the standard replacement.

Do you have an Interstate Battery Center nearby?

If not, you can probably order what you need from them. They can probably advise you correctly if it's okay to go "off spec" with the 750 mH for that phone and charging capacity, too.

Their ads claim they have replacement batteries for every application and as you probably already know, it's important to make sure the set you get has the same connector on it... otherwise, you're gonna need to do some soldering.

Judging by this list of batteries for Panasonic cordless phones, they are being truthful about having batteries for every application:

This will work just fine or even higher and yes, it will increase the talk time dramatically over the OEM batts. I build my own battery packs for everything. I always bump up the mA or amps if possible. The phone should not have any problem charging at all., though it may take a little longer.
